Concerning this thread started by Skald the Rhymer, I don’t understand IvoryTowerDenizen’s decision to issue a warning and close the thread.
I see that some of Skald’s recent first paragraphs have been judged a passive-aggressive reaction to the fair-warning thing. But in this case, the first paragraph (I don’t know if I’m allowed to quote it) doesn’t seem particularly offensive, and accurately states that there’s slavery and torture in the hypothetical.
This really isn’t hard. He’s breaking rule number one: “Don’t Be A Jerk”.
If a mod says “New rule, going forward don’t use a green font”, and you choose a font that’s yellow-green and say “See? I’m not breaking the rules”, you’re being a jerk. Hell, the first big SDMB moderating kerfluffle (circa early 2000) was Melin (ex-mod) playing exactly that game with the then-current mods*. So it’s not like it’s a new rule or a new interpretation.
*There was a lot more to the Melin thing than that, but a huge chunk of it (before she threatened to sue everyone) was the Mods saying “Don’t call yourself a mod when you’re not” and her doing the "Well, ok, I’m a “Mod-Emeritus. Nyahh-nyahh-can’t touch me.” shit that Skald is pulling.
How hard is it to follow the rules? What that poster is doing, imho, is similar to tailgating in the right lane with no exit coming up and two open lanes to the left. It’s called Being A Jerk
As said in the other thread, he’s playing the “I’m not touching you!” game. Doesn’t matter if it’s out of petulance or some other emotion. He’s being a jerk on purpose.
He already had two previous threads closed for the exact same reason. You may not agree that any of them should have been closed but doing the identical thing a third time is clearly acting like an ass and disobeying both the letter and the spirit of the Moderators instructions.
