I dig it. Very, very 80s-new-wave feeling. This could be a Billy Idol song, and in fact the oh-oh-oh refrain makes me think of “Dancing With Myself.” Hard to believe the brains behind Bleachers is the same guy from fun.
Nice guitar line! I am fairly familiar with these guys, more energy than I usually have associated with them. [Ah, off the debut album, gotcha…]
So, something in the same general vein:
The Charlatans, “The Only One I Know.”
Upbeat and rockin’ (gently). Decent song, though not really my style.
A little twangier than I’m used to hearing from Jack White, but it’s got a lot of old-school charm and I dig the lyrics.
Andrew McMahon In the Wilderness - Cecilia and the Satellite.
More like Andrew Rigley…not my taste.
Upbeat lyrics sung in a melancholy style to a disco backbeat. I like it.
I love The Nightwatchman! He manages to invoke Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash, and Bruce Springsteen without sounding cheesy or contrived. Morello would have made a horrible singer for RATM, but here he seems to be in his element.
(As a side note, Smapti, I’ve got to say I’m surprised you like this, given what I have observed of your political stances. Music bridges all gaps, I guess. Cheers!)
AC/DC, “It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Want To Rock and Roll)”
I think I may have heard that years ago. I liked the opening guitar riff a lot, but the singing was a disappointment. On the other hand, the bagpipes were an inspired touch. Overall, not a bad song.
Cobra Starship, “You Make Me Feel…”: Cobra Starship: You Make Me Feel... ft. Sabi [OFFICIAL VIDEO] - YouTube
Club music. I could probably get down dancing to this in a room with a bunch of people, but listening to it alone in a small room just doesn’t feel right.
Not a very interesting song, but I like the vocalist- I look forward to hearing that voice on a better song.
Was (Not Was): “Shake Your Head” (featuring Ozzy Osbourne on vocals).

[/QUOTE]Well that was certainly enjoyable. A fine beat and quite funny lyrics. Brought a smile to my face and a tap to my toe.
Nice piece of experimental synthesizer music. It actually strikes me as quite ahead of its time; I could easily imagine that playing in a club nowadays (OK, maybe a really avant-garde club). Not bad for an architect. ![]()
The Shins - Gone For Good, alternate version.
OK, I can fully dig where these guys are coming from. But the chord progressions are rather pedestrian, and the lead vocalist’s voice is too thin and a bit off-key.
Someone in the duel thread asked why I preferred Ride over My Bloody Valentine. This is why.
A nice homage to The Byrds.
Never heard of the band before. It was a mash-up of so many elements and reminded me of 70s rock meets Stone Temple Pilots after skipping a couple Lithium refills. Manic moments dancing with peaceful soaring.
The Owls-Peppermint Patty
Production quality is poor. Sounds like it was recorded in 1969 in a gas station bathroom, with the Partridge family backing them up.
Sweet song with a nice voice. Good filler in an album or mix, but a little forgettable. Awful music video
Depressingly adequate.
I love The Shins! Something about that keening tenor and the jangly-reverby guitar makes me think of early U2, if U2 were from the American Southwest instead of Ireland. I had never seen this Wes Anderson-esque video, so thanks for that.
Meh. Sounds like every other Ramones song ever.
