The opening acoustic riff reminded me of Dylan’s “Hurricane”. Then it was coupled with a vocalist whose timbre reminded me of Glenn Tilbrook from Squeeze. I’d love to hear a more updated version without the jarring synthesizer strikes and the overdone backing vocals. I think a more stripped down version and it could be a hit song (again).

I like it. Good beat, nice syncopation, French rapping - what’s not to like? And is that an oboe or clarinet in there? Some Arab woodwind?

Dylan, “Things Have Changed”: Bob Dylan - Things Have Changed (Official HD Video) - YouTube

(See if you can spot the in-joke in the song).

Dylan’s been in the game for almost 60 years now and his style has barely changed, and that’s not a bad thing. (I don’t think I noticed an in-joke, though.)

Skelator - Rhythm of the Chain.

Old school L.A. metal reminiscent of the early Metal Massacre albums – I like it.

Killing Joke - Victory

He sings, “The next 60 seconds could be like an eternity” almost exactly one minute before the song ends.

As to Killing Joke’s “Victory”: Good Eighties synth-pop; kinda sorta sounds like Tears for Fears or Depeche Mode. I like it.

The Killers, “Human”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIZdjT1472Y

New Wave revival with a refrain that doesn’t make a lot of sense, but sounds deep in a vague Devo-ish sort of way.

The Protomen - Breaking Out.

Damn-is the lead singer miming The Boss? Fucking hell, a Bruce Springsteen tribute band. Pretty energetic/dramatic stuff.

My favorite band, always liked this little rocker:

The Church, “Dropping Names.”

'salright, I guess. The guitar line was a little annoying by the end. Dedededededededede

Clean Bandit, “Rather Be”: Clean Bandit - Rather Be ft. Jess Glynne [Official Video] - YouTube

Eclectic, interesting and weird. As in East meets West and there are more similarities than differences.

This Rolling Stones video seems like it was recorded during the actual Some Girls album, 'cause it sounds just like the album cut. And I LOVE it.

Definite Gram Parsons influence here,

Ah, “Far Away Eyes.” Not particularly memorable or catchy musically, but it STILL cracks me up every time. I love Jagger’s face when he’s doing his hick imitation.
How about one I first heard from my second grade hippie nun teacher back in 1969 (always loved Art Garfunkel ever since): “For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her.”

My 5th grade teacher loved Bridge Over Troubled Water, would play it constantly.

Not much to say about a classic like that. Sublime, poignant, yet hopeful.

So, classic 60’s stuff.

Donovan, “Jersey Thursday”

Not too crazy about that song. I can see that he put some heart and soul into his singing so we can commend him for that. Also the chord work and strumming is good. Hope I wasn’t rude in any way, I am just tired and cranky.

Oh man, what can you say about Marvin? His voice was one of the most beautiful, versatile musical instruments ever to grace the planet. He was also brave, in that he was pretty much the first artist to bring serious social commentary to previously “all entertainment, all the time” Motown. And gone too soon, for sure.

That wasn’t one of his songs that I was most familiar with, and I liked it a lot.

Next: Al di Meola, “Race With The Devil on a Spanish Highway”

Sounds like the opening theme to a Seventies cop show - in a good way!

The Alan Parsons Project, “Return to Tunguska”: Alan Parsons - Return to Tunguska - YouTube

It’s alright, but they spent eight minutes on the intro and forgot to write a song to attach it to.

Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue - Where the Wild Roses Grow.

Borderline creepy and overwrought. Her voice is annoying.

Avril Lavigne, “What the Hell”: Avril Lavigne - What The Hell (Official Video) - YouTube

As far as Avril Lavigne’s style of pop-punk goes, it’s not half-bad.

Mark Crozer and the Rels - Broken Out In Love.

I really like the intro, but the vocals knock a star or so off my rating. The chord change around 0:45 is pretty meh, and the background vocals in the chorus aren’t my thing. The guitar line afterward is nice, though. The guitar solo is okay. I’d give it about 3 stars out of 5. (Checking the comments, I guess it’s Bray Wyatt’s WWE entrance song? I wouldn’t’ve expected that.)

Courtney Barnett – “Pedestrian At Best”

Great post-grunge style, raw vocals, thick & crunchy guitars, can’t say anything bad about this one.

Opeth - The Baying of the Hounds

Epic prog metal-but with those abominable growling vocals which I typically hate (or can’t stop giggling at, a la the Cookie Monster). Sorry b_d, just a personal (anti-) preference.

This guy whispers more than growls, that I can tolerate:
Fields of the Nephilim, “Psychonaut.”
