There seem to be no shortage of people who’d be perfectly happy if the Israeli people all linked hands and marched into the Mediterranean, that’s for sure.
I did not say you needed to shed tears. I said you needed to decide whether they are worthy of protection from indiscriminate slaughter. I guess I should realize that you’ve answered this many times. Palastinians, who I rather doubt would want you dead unless they read this thread, that is. Are things. They are objects in the way of Israel’s holy war. Yes, Hamas started it, but someone needs to stop it, and doing it on the heads of non-combatants is evil and disgusting. It is not fit for the “Liberal Democracy” you claim Israel is or the US is supposed to be.
Kidding aside, that is an amazingly self-centered view of my statement. Do you know of any Palestinians who want you dead for not converting? Or perhaps I should ask do you know any Palestinians at all?
Do you deny that there are Ultra-conservative Jews in Israel who don’t care how many Palestinians are killed?
More importantly, you seem to pride yourself as someone who cuts through bull, but you are asking us to believe the word of the Israeli government in the middle of a war. You don’t think that there is any spin coming out of Tel Aviv at all these days?
The Israeli government has squandered an opportunity to prove that they are better than Hamas. Better defined by morality, humanity, righteousness and so on.
I’m an atheist with a Jewish extended family who has had homosexual experiences in the past. What do you think Hamas would do with me?
I’m sure there are.
That was proven the moment Hamas was founded;
I believe Tel Aviv more than I believe Hamas.
So you say, and yet I’ve read, in this thread and others, that Israel is fascist, genocidcal, apartheid, criminal, theocratic, deliberately targets civilians, snipes 5-year-olds, faked atroticites against its own people, killed its own citizens to instigate this war, is not a democracy, ignores the will of its people, and is comparable to Nazi Germany.
If I believed all of that, and I [i]didn’t(/i] want Israel destroyed, I’d be psychotic.
Excluded middle much? You’re acting as though there’s no difference between claims like, for example, “Israel is engaging in this particular criminal activity” and claims like “Israel is fundamentally criminal and needs to be destroyed”. You’re also conflating Palestinians in general with Hamas extremists in particular.
All of which exaggeration and false dichotomy seems to be basically an excuse for you to cling to your belief that whatever Israel’s doing must be right, because the only alternative is to wholeheartedly support whatever Hamas is doing.
It’s hard for anybody more capable of perceiving a moral middle ground to know how to talk to you about your Marvel comic book version of this conflict. (And that’s maybe even a little unfair to Marvel comic books, some of whose stories do encompass more ethical nuance than you’re recognizing here.)
Again, you’re irresponsibly conflating all criticisms and accusations regarding Israel with ideologically extremist “anti-Israeli propaganda”.
I mean, I get it: you want an excuse to dismiss all criticisms and accusations regarding Israel as mere propaganda inventions with no factual merit, and this approach allows you to do so. But I don’t think you’re fooling anybody but yourself.
More irresponsible exaggerated conflation of very different aspects of the situation on your part.
Passing over the irony of your uncritically citing the Evangelical Christian mouthpiece “All Arab News” after side-eyeing the Grayzone for bias, you are pretending that any Palestinians who support in any way Hamas-led armed rebellion against Israeli occupation must therefore agree with all the extremist views ever expressed by any Hamas militant.
And again, I get the basic motivation for why people who don’t have good arguments to make indulge in these kinds of bad arguments. But it’s exhausting to wade through them.
If I didn’t believe in killing all Jews, I wouldn’t call myself a supporter of an organization whose written charter calls for the killing of all Jews.
You mean the organization whose current written charter explicitly states that “the conflict is with the Zionist project, not with the Jews because of their religion. Hamas does not wage a struggle against the Jews because they are Jewish but wages a struggle against the Zionists who occupy Palestine”?
It’s rare for me even in the Pit to simply give up on a fellow poster as a liar whose incorrigible lying is just not worth arguing with, but I’m starting to think MrDibble has a point.
Oh, so they don’t want to kill all the Jews, just the 41% of them that live in Israel.
That’s much better! Now I get how they’re just a bunch of misunderstood moderates. They’re more than willing to find a middle ground with those of us who don’t want to kill any Jews. Thanks for enlightening me!
…my apologies for not responding to this earlier. I really had no idea that the person who’s posts I can no longer see had been posting angrily about me every time I post something that upsets him.
And while the idea that they are quietly seething every time I post anything on these boards is mildly amusing, I’d suggest taking action so that they could no longer see any of my posts might be a better way to go.
Uh, because that’s a blatantly racist concept? David Ben-Gurion agrees with me:
The State of Israel will be open for Jewish immigration and for the Ingathering of the Exiles; it will foster the development of the country for the benefit of all its inhabitants; it will be based on freedom, justice and peace as envisaged by the prophets of Israel; it will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or sex; it will guarantee freedom of religion, conscience, language, education and culture; it will safeguard the Holy Places of all religions; and it will be faithful to the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.
Israeli Declaration of Independence, 1948, bolding added.
I think at a certain point you just have to give up on arguing with Smapti. He has a black and white, cartoonish mindset that appears incapable of understanding that the “good guys” can ever be wrong, and concludes that any actions they take to go after the “bad guys” are inerrantly justified.
Previously he applied it to justify police shooting unarmed suspects in the name of upholding the law, now he applies it to the bombing and starving of hundreds of thousands of children. The stakes have increased but the justification is the same and there is going to be no way to get through.
I put Smapti on ignore after their continuing posts consisting of Twitter dumps. I’d be on that platform if I wanted to see that trash. They likely been over-exposed to right-wing propaganda, which has a black and white view of the world.
