It is not fit for the “Liberal Democracy” you claim Israel is or the US is supposed to be.
Since none of significance are involved in pushing for a ceasefire on most levels, that shouldn’t be an obstacle.

The Israeli government has squandered an opportunity to prove that they are better than Hamas. Better defined by morality, humanity, righteousness and so on.

I think at a certain point you just have to give up on arguing with Smapti. He has a black and white, cartoonish mindset that appears incapable of understanding that the “good guys” can ever be wrong, and concludes that any actions they take to go after the “bad guys” are inerrantly justified.
Previously he applied it to justify police shooting unarmed suspects in the name of upholding the law, now he applies it to the bombing and starving of hundreds of thousands of children. The stakes have increased but the justification is the same and there is going to be no way to get through.
