Reading in a tub of hot water is relaxing, pleasant, and will usually soak loose ground-in grime, if you do the sort of work that sometimes results in ground-in grime. Taking a shower is just work.
I add hot water to the tub when it starts to cool down. Once; more than once is too decadent, and I should probably get out of the tub and either go to bed or get dressed and do something else. I do rinse off briefly with the shower afterwards.
When I see the topic “number of beds in the world” my first thought isn’t to compare that to the number of people. When it’s made clear that that’s the context my second thought is to wonder what qualifies as a “bed” – hammocks? mats on the ground? sleeping platforms? whatever the Andaman Islanders sleep on, they probably use something? or are we talking only about bedframes and mattresses? – and my third is that a) some people share beds b) some people have more than one bed, because they have more than one house c) some people have guest beds d) hotels and motels and such have beds; and I don’t know whether the sharing-beds factor outweighs the other factors, maybe it comes out about even?
The one time I was so sure somebody at a party must have taken something home, possibly accidentally, that I proceeded to ask everybody to look for it, I found it several days later, right where I’d put it myself. So I became pretty reluctant after that to think ‘Somebody must have taken it!’
I voted that I want my receipt, because I usually do; but actually the answer is more like “it depends.”
And I voted that I wear glasses but don’t use an umbrella, because I rarely use an umbrella, but once in a while I do. @puzzlegal, is that question about rain making the glasses hard to see through? Some (not all) hats do help with that; and IME umbrellas don’t always stop it.
I take baths daily, especially in the winter. They are a great solution to any number of problems. Cold? Bath. Stressed? Bath. In any sort of pain? Bath.
I have a giant garden tub which makes it even better. Fill that sucker up with hot water as hot as I can stand it. I swear something about that sudden shock of hot water creates some kind of chemical change that instantly lowers my stress.
Usually I read, surf the web, or chat with my friends via text. When I’m really stressed out I shun all electronics and light some candles.
I really can get zoned out and sit in a tub for hours, so lately I’ve been setting an alarm that I have to physically get out of the tub to turn off.
Yes. I use umbrellas and my husband doesn’t, and in many conditions, i think the difference is that he can see when it’s raining, and i can’t, unless i keep the rain off my face.
Penalty kicking is another good case for ‘none of the above’. Like a lot of good strikers, I ignore whatever he did and try to read his lean after slowing my approach to the ball.
The inside of my ears are itching. So I’m still going with “other”. But I suspect that’s weird, and I don’t think you should expand your poll to include it.
If it’s weird, so am I. Which is not much help, because I definitely am weird; but the insides of my ears often itch.
It didn’t occur to me to think of that for that poll, though; possibly because I’m nearly always itchy somewhere and have been all my life, so it’s faded into background noise.
Buckner will be forever remembered for that error, but Calvin Schiraldi (3 straight hits allowed after two were out) and Bob Stanley (wild pitch allowing the tying run to score) were more to blame for that loss than Buckner was, IMO.
And then Schiraldi went on to give up 3 earned runs (the eventual margin of victory) in a third of an inning - including a WP of his own - in game 7.
When we remodeled our townhouse, my en suite had the only tub in the house. I had it removed for a larger shower. I don’t take baths and don’t have time for them. Plus, I live in drought country, and baths use more water, and I couldn’t justify taking a bath just to relax if I’d already showered. I don’t mind soaking in hot tubs, but most bath tubs are not very comfortable for me.
I’m a born and raised Southern Californian, and I went long stretches in my life when I didn’t even own a coat, but I’ve always had an umbrella…usually many. I’m downsizing my possessions, and I recently donated about 5 umbrellas. I still have six. But I will often go out in the rain without one.
I live in anti-droughtland, and tend to bathe more in fall-winter-spring and less in summer (when there’s no rain). I also use the greywater (baths without soap) for watering outdoor plants in summer.
The only time I suspect something was stolen from me but I can’t be sure of it, was at my birthday party when I was just a wee lad, maybe nine or so. Someone gave me a copy of the USS Enterprise schematics (yes, I was a Trekker even then), looseleaf foldout pages in a little plastic portfolio. Within a day or two I realized that one of the pages, showing the starship from the outside in profile, was missing. I still suspect one of my birthday guests ripped me off, but never figured out who.
I almost always use either an umbrella (if I’m dressed up) or a raincoat (if I’m not) when I’m out in the rain.
I haven’t taken a bath in years, although our house has a tub; I much prefer showers, first thing in the morning. I’ve only rarely showered twice in one day, and then only when I’ve gotten very hot and sweaty since my morning shower. If I know I’m going to be sweating that morning, such as doing yardwork, moving heavy objects, etc., I just wait to have my shower later.
I do enjoy a dunk in a hot tub or jacuzzi when I can. We don’t have one, but it’s a nice perk if a hotel has one.
