My parents were renting when they had their first child, my eldest sister. Their apartment was so small that, very early on, she often slept in blankets in a cardboard box in the bathtub.
I’ve dined in rotating restaurants in Atlanta, Pittsburgh and Calgary. I like 'em, as I enjoy seeing the scenery gradually change. It was at the Calgary restaurant, when I was a kid, that my parents first noticed that I needed glasses, because I couldn’t see some of the things they pointed out to me along the skyline.
I have played no video games. None. Yes, I am old. Yes, I am weird, even for being old.
I have played most of the other games; but haven’t played any of them well, and last played most of them so long ago that I’ve forgotten how. Anybody wanna take me on at Scrabble or 500 Rummy, though?
I played a bit of Galaga in college but was otherwise not much of a videogame guy. These days I love my handheld Tetris game, and play it whenever I have a little time to kill.
When we bought our current house my parents wanted to buy us a new refrigerator. We had our choice but the only thing I wanted was a bottom freezer. Intentionally chose a model without in-door ice and water; those are always the first thing to break.
My parents were renting when they got married. A little more than 3 years later when they had three babies it was time to move. They bought new construction in the suburbs. My mother told me they found out at closing that they were going to be paying $20 more a month than they thought. They were worried that they wouldn’t be able to afford it. And it was a close thing for awhile. I came along years later as a happy surprise (she assured me).
I proposed to my girlfriend on one knee, on her birthday, in our apartment. I didn’t do it in the restaurant where we’d had dinner earlier that night, because I knew she’d be mortified by other people staring and just might say no. Fortunately, at home, she said yes!
My daughter became obsessed with a game called Viva Piñata. The purpose of the game was to breed living piñatas. There were various criteria needed before different piñatas would show up. There were written screens that would explain the prerequisites. She played it well enough just by asking and experimenting. One day she grabbed me and her mother and sat us down to watch her play. She brought up the instruction screens and read them to us. She skipped over some words but got about 90%. It was meant to be an all ages game but it wasn’t written for new readers. She was three and we had gone over her alphabet but hadn’t tried to get her to read yet.
I was sitting next to my GF on a rock when I proposed. Didn’t seem right to start what should be an equal partnership with one person down on a knee. Or at least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Our main fridge in the kitchen (our old one is in the garage) is a Side by side. Freezer on the left, fridge on the right. Ice and water through the door. Like this one (not our kitchen)
Next to it is a wine cooler.
Even cooler (heh) is the refrigerator freezer drawers that look like cabinets
