Interesting that I’ve owned a car from all of the decades since the seventies - except for the current decade we’re now in. (My most recent vehicle purchase was in 2018 and I’m still driving it.)
I always wash new clothes before wearing, because of the formaldehyde.
Crap, I left off Palenque in my poll
I’ve been to Chichen Itza, but I’ve also been to Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico, which was home to a major Ancestral Puebloan settlement from 900-1150 CE.
Yeah, I realize I shortchanged US sites; I just chose a couple famous sites from a long list. Serpent Mound is probably one I should have also included. I guess I was leaning toward “monumental” sites, because including every US archeological site is impossible in a poll.
(also it seemed like a bunch of claimed sites were controversial/bullshit)
There are some Indian mounds just off a bike trail a couple of miles from me.
I haven’t been to any pre-Columbian sites. I have been to the District of Columbia and driven past Columbia University.
I voted that I have no strong opinions about self checkout but that’s not exactly correct. I like it at a convenience store when I have a couple of items. In any other store I hate them.
They don’t do the tomahawk chop at Washington games.
I love self checkout when it works.
I hate self checkout when it doesn’t work.
Like most technology.
mmm
I voted that i hate self checkout, because mostly i prefer a cashier. But hate is really the wrong word. Self checkout is okay if i only have an item or two.
(In my neck of the woods, the self checkout is generally slower than the “ten items or less” lanes it replaced. But not a lot slower.)
I absolutely adore self checkout. I’ve gotten very good at it. For groceries, I haven’t used a human cashier in years.
Yes, the tomahawk chop was never a feature of Redskins fandom.
I’ve seen it once there. Probably not a regular feature though.
In an ideal world, I would prefer a human cashier, but the self-checkout lanes usually have significantly shorter lines.
Theater or Drive-In? Where is the option for watching at home? I don’t want to watch a movie if I can’t have closed captions.
I’ve been to more Washington games than I can count, and the only time I ever saw it was during a Chiefs game.
I replied theater partially because the only drive-in left is 50 miles away on the other side of town and it’s $25 per car, attractive if you have a passel of kids but not so much for a single or couple.
The question said “all things being equal,” so I took it to mean same distance, same price. I picked drive-in because my car seats are more comfortable, and the sound would be better from my speakers. Plus, I wouldn’t have people all around me. I’m not found of people.
In reality, the closest drive in is about 30 miles away, so we’ve never gone there. Mostly, we watch movies at home.
I don’t know for sure how I’d feel about self-checkouts, because I’ve never used one.
When the store’s busy, I’m not going to use the self-checkout, because I’ve never used one, and I don’t want to hold up the line in a busy store because I’m trying to learn how to use the self-checkout, therefore almost certainly taking longer even if all goes well and also having a greater chance of messing it up.
When the store’s not busy, neither are the cashiers; and it’s easier and almost certainly faster for me, on any given day, to use the checkout type that I already know how to use than to decide “Today, I’m going to teach myself how to use the self-checkout.”
IME, they are intuitively obvious. Different models may differ on where you insert payment, or where the change and receipt come out, but those are minor variations.
