Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

I voted that I had driven an electric vehicle, because I had driven a golf cart.

Most of the countries I voted for I actually spent time in. The two I cheated on were Belgium and Iceland. Belgium I flew into the airport in a helicopter the was being turned in to be stripped and refurbished. Flew in left seat of an OH-58, flew out in a Huey. Iceland we landed at the airport at three in the morning and got sent into the closed terminal while the plane refueled. This was on the way to Kuwait. Didn’t see any of the country from the air because it was dark but did see the Aurora Borealis.

I think it’s interesting hearing people say women doctors are better. Not only have I never noticed a difference, but I’ve heard many women say their female gynecologists are way less understanding than male ones. I’ve only ever had women, so I can’t be sure, but I’ve had some very dismissive and unhelpful gyns throughout the years, to the point that I tend to avoid medical care altogether. I have learned helplessness for health care, I guess.

Same. I’ve driven an electric golf cart, but I assumed that wasn’t what the poll was about, so I picked “no”.

I’ve connected through airports in Stockholm and Copenhagen, but I’ve never been in Sweden and Denmark outside of those airports, so I didn’t count those because I don’t consider the airport to be visiting a place. But I did get some Danish coins as change when I bought a coffee, even though I paid for it with Euros.

My sister has an electric car, and when I visit her I borrow it sometimes. That’s the only time I’ve driven one.

In the Schengen list, I included some countries that I visited before they joined Schengen, but not since. Not sure if that’s cheating.

If it is, I cheated too. I’ve been to Italy and to France – back in the late 1970’s.

In 2007 I went on a whirlwind cruise of France, Spain, Italy, Greece, and Croatia, all with my husband’s family.

Greece was far and away my favorite, though the Amalfi coast of Italy was nice too. What was cool about Greece is that I started in Santorini where we climbed a volcano and learned about the ancient volcanic eruption that preserved many historical artifacts and scenes exactly as they happened. Then we went to the archeological museum in Athens soon after, where we could actually see what had been unearthed in Santorini. Since they’d recently held the Olympics there, everything had English translation.

I was just a young broke kid at the time. Never imagined I would find myself dining in five star restaurants and taking these private cruises through the caverns of Capris. It felt like I’d won a game show or something.

Dubrovnik, Croatia was lovely too. You can walk on the top of this ancient wall surrounding the city and look straight out onto the clearest of blue-green oceans.

I would definitely go back to Greece, but I don’t think I’d do it as a cruise.

Lived in Germany for two years.
Visited France, Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg. As I mentioned just flew into the airport in Belgium and Iceland but each had something unique happen that set it apart from just visiting an airport. Flying over Belgium in a helicopter was a much different perspective than an airliner.

I haven’t had rosettes since Lincoln Park closed down when I was a kid :no_mouth:

If golf carts count, how about bumper cars?

I used to see a female dentist. I liked her. She retired, and sold her practice to a male dentist. I don’t dislike him, but his hands seem huge compared with what I am used to.

My current primary physician is female. I like her, but I’m heterosexual. I’m afraid I might say something stupid, and offend her.

I am a poor, broke American without a passport. I haven’t even been to any of the other countries on my own continent.

Now, if the question had been which ones I’d like to visit, the answers would be totally different.

We don’t have them as fair food in MN, but they are a Christmas tradition in many Nordic families. I even have my great-grandmother’s rosette iron, along with my own double iron.

According to my Italian wife, gnocchi is pasta.

I do not want to live in any of those places.

Seriously. None of them.

The Cheesecake Factory has a 20 page menu. It’s the easy choice.

I went with my second choice of Shake Shack because… yum. But my first choice would have been Smoothie King. Smoothies are my way of life lately.

A random flip through three of our Italian cookbooks says that gnocchi is a dumpling….

The barbecue joint was closed, so we looked around and ended up ordering from the Cheesecake Factory. Holy crap but that shit was wrong. On all counts. Even the cheesecake was awful.

I would have to live at Olive Garden, if those were my only options. They treat you like family. I could use the dose of humility.
