When I see that Jim577 is making several spelling/grammar/etc. errors and Bob49 is not, I assume the odds are better than 50/50 that at least one of the following is true:
Bob49 is better educated than Jim577.
Bob49 is better read than Jim577.
Bob49 is more conscientious and pays more attention to detail than Jim577.
Bob49 cares more than Jim577 about communicating with accuracy and clarity.
Any one of these would make me more inclined to trust what Bob49 has to say than what Jim577 has to say. But this is far from saying that Bob49 is guaranteed to be the more correct or trustworthy of the two.
I’m not going to lie, I’m really surprised that lemon Startbursts are doing so well. Cherry and orange are my favorites, strawberry is decent, but if there’s no one around who likes lemon, I throw them away.
re Jim/Bob :-
Depends what they’re arguing about.
If it’s English language / literature… probably Jim.
If it’s growing cannabis, more likely to be Bob.
But as it’s about something i “don’t know much about” … who knows !
I gather that the site looks different on a phone, and presume the software’s designed to at least theoretically make it work better on the smaller phone screen. I don’t know which one a tablet would use.
Being from MN, and having brothers who watched pro wrestling regularly, I know of the MN Wrecking Crew. I also know about the other one.
I said 50/50 because there is a strong possibility that Jim577 could be either dyslexic or texting while in a moving vehicle. There’s not enough evidence to say otherwise.
I said desktop view, but it turns out that I am in mobile view. Better go fix my vote.
Thanks; but it’s not there. Something about the keyboard is, but nothing about mobile or desktop view. Maybe Discourse knows I’m on a desktop so isn’t offering me a choice?
– oh, the keyboard thing is a list of keyboard shortcuts. I’m pretty sure I found that before, but don’t feel like memorizing it, and it’s not a shortcut if I have to look it up.
Too bad it’s impossible to read the results of the airplane poll. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a worse selection of pie chart colors. The first three look identical to me. In fact each adjacent pair is difficult or impossible to distinguish. I guess there’s a shortage of red and green pixels right now.
I don’t remember how old I was the first time I flew on a plane.
I’m sure I was older than 5; and I’m sure I was no older than 20. But I can’t remember whether I was on a plane sometime in the 8 to 18 range – I have a faint memory, but don’t remember where we were going, or how old I was, or entirely for sure whether I was on the plane or just being taken to meet somebody getting on or off a plane.
I first flew in my mother’s lap, and the first flight I remember was when I was 4. I’m a world traveler; it’s a pity that al of it was before the age of 7.
I’ll take your lemon Starbursts, and I’d rather throw the strawberry ones in the trash than into my mouth.
I don’t actually believe Bob is more likely to be correct than Jim, but in the absence of any other information, I’m likely to feel like he is.
My parents were “Mamma” and “Daddy” to me and my brother all our lives, just because that’s what we started with and we never changed. I would always refer to them as “my mom” or “my dad” because the other sounds infantile, but those weren’t the names in my head. I started my kids out with “Mommy” and “Daddy” and consciously transitioned over to Mom and Dad when they were in late elementary so they wouldn’t have the same issue. (Come to think of it, my brother forced me through the use of violence to drop the “y” from his nickname when he was 10, so it would totally have been possible to do the same with our parents. Hmm.)
I knew about the musical Wrecking Crew, but not the Minnesota one.
And finally, I know I’m on mobile view because I’m on the app. I may be an old lady, but I probably interact with my phone as much as the average teenager.
