Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

My dentist recommended interdental brushes. This is the company who makes the one the ones I use:

I have a permanent wire retainer for my bottom front six teeth. It’s not possible to get floss there without a threader and a lot of time. The interdental brush works like a charm and I even carry one in my purse for when I’m out and about. It also fits in the gap between my implant and the gum. I sometimes use dental floss in addition, but normally the interdental brush is enough. And I use a manual tooth brush, changing it every 3 months.

In the last 10 years I’ve been on the tarmac of Islay, Ediburgh, Glasgow, Heathrow and Zurich airports. Probably also in Hawaii, but it’s been decades since I’ve been there.

It took your post for me to realize that. I also considered it could be a typo (AAA).

mmm

Definitely not the windowless cabin; I’m a person who needs windows. But the other choices depend on a number of factors: how much money do I have? (Clearly more than I have now or I wouldn’t have booked a cruise in the first place; but do I have enough not to care how much it costs?) Am I travelling with somebody, and if so what’s their opinion? What’s the current disease transmission rate? Is this cruise-with-balcony something I’ve been massively anticipating as a special treat, or do I routinely take cruises with and without balcony rooms?

On the cruise, I’d either take the cabin with a window or cancel, but which one depends on other stuff.

As for the children, i would try very hard to keep them together. I care more about that than custody of my kid, so long as i get decent visiting time with my kid. Of the choices offered, that means i want custody of both. But I’d also be open to them both being taken in by family of the step child, if a suitable person wants to take them in.

I’ve done a few cruises, and my room was used only for sleeping, showering, and shiting. I’m budget conscious so I’d get whatever room was the cheapest and spend my savings on the islands we visited.

Yeah. The only solid connection in their lives that those kids have had is each other. Separating them at this point would very likely be a disaster for both.

Voted for keeping custody of both without having to think about it. And the children should both know that I’d be very willing to do that, because that’s important. But reading your post: yes, if the best chance for keeping them together were a suitable family on the stepchild’s side, I’d settle for visitation rights – especially if that’s what the children wanted. In any case, they should both be informed and consulted re all the decisions in the process.

They do quite well, but I’ve found that floss is what really does a good job on things like popcorn hulls.

Other: Wheelz didn’t Realize he was posting in the polls only thread until too late.

Here’s the real story:

I thought it would be interesting to split @Cardigan’s pet poll into two separate polls, one for pets you’ve actually had and another for pets you didn’t have but wish you did.

Then I realized you can’t copy/paste poll choices (or I didn’t figure out how) and I didn’t have time to manually enter all the options.

I might do it later.

Dental equipment -

Manual Toothbrush, Dental pics (dentek with thin thread, the ribbons don’t work for me), Waterpik. I find the portability of picks nice, and that they get some things the waterpik doesn’t, and vice-versa.

Cruise -

I went with 150% refund, but with the assumption I booked through a medium where I’d also get full refund on the rest of package (not 150%, but full). Considering my cheapness and the questionable value of most cruises, I figure IRL I’d have had semi-immediate buyer’s remorse, and would find this an epic win to get more out than I put in.

If I had other expenses I couldn’t get back (flights, other transportation, pre-booked events in conjunction with the cruise) -OR- it was a cruise that affected others (some huge family cruise with my parents, brothers, niece and nephew as an example) then I’d go with the 75% off for a featureless cabin. Maximize the money going back into my wallet, and I don’t think I’ll be spending any time inside other than sleeping.

The only way I would ever be booked on a cruise ship is as a reluctant participant in a group vacation. I would jump at the 150% refund and get out of having to go on a damn cruise

About the shoe poll - I usually go barefoot in my house and in my yard because I don’t like wearing shoes(or socks). But if the poll is about those who insist that shoes be removed before entering their house, then Hell no. When I come home with shoes on my feet I take them off once I’ve reached my bedroom closet to put them where they stay until needed again. And close friends take their shoes off if they wish to, but just to be comfortable.

I wasn’t sure how to answer that one, either. I rarely wear shoes in the house. During covid, i realized that i typically removed my shoes before my mask. And as more and more of my friends live in no-show homes, i find many of my guests take their shoes off, too. But it’s certainly not a rule, and my older guests all leave their shoes on.

Hmm, actually, the right way to respond is with another poll…

Was never a fan of the Munsters. I thought it was stupid in a way that Addams Family somehow was not. It was just way too much on the nose.

I found Bewitched to be the more relatable of the two shows. IDoJ was a live-action cartoon.

Objectively, Thundercats is the superior show in every way, but still I prefer He-Man. Most likely just because it came
first.

Transformers, of course. Useless trivia: Go-Bots actually predate Transformers by a year.

I watched Babylon 5 occasionally, but if I you asked me I couldn’t name a single character off the top of my head, so DS9.

I’m not sure what “Huff” is, so House.

Similarly, never seen Studio 60, so 30 Rock.

Didn’t love Rings of Power, but I like LOTR and I don’t like GoT, so that.

Done.

One downside of this thread is that there are fewer “response” polls in the main thread

Voted that I usually wear shoes in my house, which is true; but I sometimes change them when I come in, if I’m going to be mostly inside for a while. I generally change them for other shoes, though, that either breathe better or are better suited for indoor temperatures; though sometimes that’s sandals and very occasionally slippers. Stocking feet would be mostly when I expect to be sitting in one place for a while, and often not then because who knows when there’ll be a cat yowling outdoors? Bare feet are mostly for going to the john in the night or first thing in the morning – or very occasionally if I’ll be sitting/lying in the grass outdoors for a while.

I’m in and out of the house so much most days that there’s no way I’m taking my shoes off every time I come in the door, especially if it’s only for ten minutes to pee or make a note or check something. The dog and cats are tracking stuff in, I may as well join them. And even when I’m mostly in I want something on that I can go at least a short way outside the door in, because sometimes I’m only going out for a few minutes to get the mail or a cat or to put something away in/get something from the barns. Plus which, the dog leaves things randomly on the floor that can be unpleasant to step on without shoes (most of them not squashy; he likes to chew sticks into bits and strew the bits around. Some of the bits have edges.)

If somebody wants to take their shoes off in my house, that’s up to them. If they want me to take my shoes off when I come into theirs, I do that, it’s their house; but around here that isn’t very common.

The shoe thing to me is like the toilet lid thing. Of course the lid should be closed. Of course shoes come off when entering a house.

And that’s why a strict rule of “no shoes on in the house” seems so unworkable to me: it makes it too much of a PITA to just step outside for a minute (if you’re inside) or just step inside for a minute (if you’re outside).

We have a two-story house, and our rule is this: No shoes on upstairs, ever. Shoes are allowed to be downstairs if you are just coming in or out from outside, or going back and forth.

Friend who have a strict “no shoes” rule and who also garden or have pets generally have some footwear that’s easy to don and doff that lives next to the door.

Yeah. I said I wear shoes in the house, but it’s essentially “house shoes.” Ones that don’t go outside. I have foot problems, and not wearing shoes exacerbates the problem.
