The police around here will turn a blind eye (deaf ear?) on fireworks until ten o’clock. That’s when they start handing out noise ordinance citations like it’s going out of style.
I wasn’t reading this site while the fireworks were on, so not sure how to answer. I could certainly hear, and when I looked to some extent see, fireworks from a number of directions last night; most of them undoubtedly amateur. This is normal; both on the Fourth, and scattered through the closest weekend.
We’re pretty wet here at the moment.
I don’t know whether I’ve ever heard gunfire at New Year’s, but it’s not a tradition around here. Hunting and target shooting are both very common, though, so it doesn’t stand out to me if I hear gunfire.
It was surprisingly quiet until just before sunset. Normally my hood takes any excuse to set off fireworks, even in broad daylight. But once they got started, they did not disappoint. Pretty much nonstop in every direction until about 1100.
The local idiots weren’t anywhere near as bad this year – not as loud, not as frequent, not as close, and not as late.
I originally said under ten flights, even counting segments, but I realised I’d forgotten several trips. The actual count is around 25-30. At least two flights had stops along the way, without changing planes, so I didn’t count the individual segments – though perhaps I should have on one flight; what was supposed to be a brief stop turned into about a four-hour wait while they fixed the plane.
