Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

I have also never eaten avocado toast; and I don’t much like guacamole. I’ve eaten quite a few avocados, though; some just as plain avocado, some sliced onto sandwiches, some in salads. Years ago I used to put mayonnaise on them, but haven’t done that in a long time, except in the sense of sometimes having mayo on the sandwiches.

I had avocado toast once, just to see what all the fuss was about, and thought it was meh. Doubt I’ll ever have it again.

I like an avocado on my Spinach and Mushroom Omelet at IHOP.

I bought the first and only car I’ve ever bought new in March 2019. I have not yet hit 20k miles. I’m sure the fact that I’m still working from home has a lot to do with that.

I love avocado toast, avocado on a burger, avocado in a salad, as guacamole, etc.

I like avocado just fine, sliced thin and briefly marinated, added to my home made maki. I also love it in terms of homemade guac with fresh tomatoes from my MIL’s garden.

Smearing it on toasted bread (of good quality) is -fine-, no better or worse than decent quality butter or cream cheese, but I almost never bother because it tends to be pricier/harder to store and use in a timely manner than the other two options I mentioned.

So my vote was ‘meh’, although @silenus makes a good point about overall impact of getting them grown and to market. Since I’m a meat eater though, I am not going to ever hit much of a mark in the food efficiency category though.

My brother and I would both be amused, but someone is definitely an idiot. Not only are there fewer than 1500 people with our last name worldwide, we both have red hair. If someone still doesn’t connect the dots…

Oh, and while I’ve eaten avocado and eaten toast, I’ve never eaten avocado toast.

Yeah, my brother has seen these in Costa Rica where he lives. The title in the video is what they call them, too.

There are some many varieties of “avocado toast.” I can’t imagine it being especially objectionable unless, as above, you hate avocado. Most I’ve seen offered are more on the healthy side with slice radishes, sprouts, etc. If that’s not to your taste, I can understand, but avocado toast is just an open-faced avocado sandwich. If you like avocado in your sandwith why would you hate it open-faced? A place I go to sometimes has a version with real bacon bits and diced tomatos. A BLT with less dry toast!

Did you add any seasoning? Or just plain avocado?

I like avocado toast, though it’s best when I make and season it. I have made it since before there was a trendy thing called “avocado toast.”

I still have my only new car.

The only new car I ever bought was a '77 Honda Civic, and had it for 125K miles. That’s what my answer was for the poll.

My current truck was bought used with 30K miles on it and now is at 208K miles, so the most miles I have ever put on a vehicle is 178K.

I’m meh on avocados, so I’ve never ordered avocado toast. I’ve been at the table when friends ate it. It looks like it would be nice if you are fond of avocado, which lots of people are.

I don’t like guac. It has all sorts of other stuff in it to make it taste nasty. But plain sliced avocado, with a little seasoning or tucked into a sandwich, is fine.

Despite having the uneasy feeling that I should answer instead “I don’t know”, my answers for how I pronounce “epoch” seem to be the majority opinion.

That is how I pronounce it. But I don’t know that I’m pronouncing it right. But you couldn’t pick two answers.

Avocado toast with a few salted sunflower seeds is delicious, IMO.

I say eh-POCK, but then, I’m a midwestern yankee. My English ex would say EE-pock.

Whew, that makes me feel better! I had to say the word out loud to myself to be able to answer the poll, and then I saw I was in the minority and started worrying that it’s one of the (still many) words I’ve only read, not heard. But then I realized that most of the times I’ve heard it have likely been in shows on PBS with British narrators.

Just how it was served to me at the restaurant. I couldn’t think of any seasonings that would make it taste any better. YMMV, of course.

I use Everything Bagel Seasoning. There are several brands, that contain all the stuff you would find on an everything bagel. Very good on avocado toast.

As a Millennial I’m proud of our legacy of avocado toast.

I don’t mean to take that from you, but where did the association between avacado toast and Millennials come from? Don’t people of all ages enjoy it in approximately equal numbers?

It was often cited as yet another example of why Millennials are broke and ruining the economy. Because we’re buying avocado toast instead of houses. We can’t afford kids because avocado toast.
