I was presuming that he could refuse. In practice he couldn’t be forced to perform delicate surgery correctly in any case; if he were unwilling it would be unfair to the patients. But he might be proud enough of his ability, or actually care enough about the patients, or just want badly enough to spend some time outside the prison, that he’d be willing – plus there’d be the possibility of earning enough to have a decent bank account waiting for him when he got out.
I have an irrational love for the movie Dragnet (1987). Another “heavy rotation on cable TV” movie that I watched literally hundreds of times because it was always on. It’s objectively not a great movie, but it has a lot of moments. Another brilliant straight man performance from Dan Akroyd. 80s Tom Hanks doing 80s Tom Hanks things.
I quote this movie a lot and almost nobody ever gets it:
“My hat was in that car.”
“I hate to admit it, but for once in your life you’re right. This is good coffee.”
“Well, Emil. It’s just you, me, …your balls, …and this drawer.”
My college roommate had the exact same clock/radio as Maus, I think.
I had a very hard time picking just three from among Splash, Dragnet, Big and A League of Their Own. Each is a very fun movie, and Hanks is excellent in each. I would’ve put You’ve Got Mail into the mix, too, as it’s an enjoyable romcom, but omitted Bonfire of the Vanities, which is not a “silly Tom Hanks” movie.
Pay attention to Harry Morgan as they’re demonstrating the dance; his reaction alone is worth the price of a ticket. I also like the LAPD armored vehicle with “Have a nice day” painted on the tip of its battering ram.
Couldn’t vote in the last yesterday’s movie-related polls. I’ve seen one Cory Feldman Movie – Goonies – and have no idea who he is. (Actor? Director? Key Grip?) And I’ve only seen one “silly comedian Tom Hanks” movie – The Man with One Red Shoe
“Excuse me. 'Scuse me. Pardon me, pardon me, 'scuse me…” continuing until I get past the people in the way. (That’s how we did it on the boat.)
If you haven’t seen Rock and Roll High School Forever, you’ve been missing out. How can you go through life without seeing the scene where they convince some poor woman they’re in a cult that worships large home appliances?
It was the one misstep in his career, or maybe one of two if you want to include Radio Flyer where he was an unseen narrator and did not get (or perhaps want) screen credit.
Re: The getting past other people in your aisle.
It is a rule of the universe that the people arriving first are invariable the ones at the end of the aisle while the ones in the center shall arrive last.
