Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

I chose to answer it as to which show was on my “to watch soon” list.

Wow! I almost envy you. I’ve binged them all twice over the years. On any given day I’d pick a different “favorite” depending on my mood.

I watched some of breaking bad, and some of Ozarks. I found breaking bad too depressing, and dropped it. I only watched Ozarks when my husband was watching, and ended up seeing most of the end, but not the beginning.

I don’t miss seeing the rest.

Watched all of Sopranos, all of Breaking Bad, the first season and a half or so of Peaky Blinders, and the first two seasons of Ozark. Peaky Blinders I had some difficulty following, certainly not helped by the fact that I was watching it very infrequently, an episode or two one day, go a week or so before watching another, etc. Ozark I enjoyed, but when I saw season 3 came out, I just never started watching it again for no particular reason.

Yeah, because I have a very Irish name, everybody tends to assume that I am 100% Irish heritage and my parents or grandparents were immigrants. Far from it. The most recent immigrants were a great-grandparents and most were not Irish.

I watched most of Sopranos. Some of Ozark (liked it but my wife didn’t, so we didn’t finish) I’ve heard good things about Breaking Bad, but haven’t started it yet. I actually never even heard of Peaky Blinders until this poll.

Judge Judy: I’ve been exposed to her, because some idiot decided to put a TV in the break room, but I paid as little attention to it as I could.

I’m still giving up the TV remote.

Drive-sharing: Heterosexual couple, and who drives depends on which car we’re using. I picked “about equal amounts”. (My car is bigger, hers gets better mileage.)

Licorice: Love it.

Aperitif: Raki, please. A couple of restaurants I visited in Crete passed out free shots after we finished the meal.

Eggnog: I picked “Yes”, though I considered “Other” as “like it” isn’t strong enough an emotion.

Response to hiccups: “Stop that!”

Since the remote is no longer an option, I’ll give up the GPS, which I don’t use anyway.
Liver: Yes, please! For some reason the question was asked in class when I was in fifth grade. I was the only person who liked it.

I like, and use, my given name. People who don’t know me well often try to use the most common diminutive, though.

I know The Sopranos was a TV show, so for Buck’s poll I assumed the others were as well – which was confirmed by Karen’s. I don’t watch TV.

.

I solve that problem by not having a garage.

I’ve seen all of Sopranos and Breaking Bad, and I loved them both. Two of my favorite series ever. Probably top two.

I wouldn’t call them depressing. Hard to watch sometimes and intense, yeah, but clever, well-acted, and occasionally funny. We still sometimes use the phrase “Czechoslovakian interior decorators.” Also BB, especially, was gorgeously filmed. A real salute to the beauty of the desert and New Mexico, in particular.

With Peaky Blinders I just couldn’t get past the name – just so cutesy ootsy. I know people who really liked it whose opinions I trust, so I might have liked it if I tried it.

Okay, I give up: was there something in particular that prompted @Karen_Lingel’s hyphen poll?

Probably-not.

What on earth is a peaky blinder, anyway?

“How To Session Deck”

Subject line of an email at work.

A gang. The members sewed razor blades in their flat caps and used them in fights to blind the enemy.

Eew. I’ll stick with the mafioso, thanks.

The origin of the name is most likely apocryphal. The real gang was coming to an end when the show started.

Don’t let that stop you. The humble beginnings of the street gang is just the starting point of the show. If you otherwise don’t have a problem with bad guys as protagonists you won’t have an issue with this show.

In our house we don’t watch shows with bad guys as protagonists. My wife’s rule.

I’ll look for a trailer on YouTube then. Thanks for the advice.

What’s that leave ? Friends?

The Sandman. The Crown. The Great British Baking Show. The Good Place. Wednesday. Lucifer. Enola Holmes. The Rings of Power. Queer Eye.

I mostly don’t watch stuff with evil protagonists, either.
