Proud to be in the 9% of poll respondents who are current union members!
I’ve never been a union member; but I’ve worked at least one place that could very much have used one.
Most of my life I’ve been self-employed, though.
Union Strong!
Hoping to get a union job next year. (Mostly hoping to get the job, but mildly happy there’s a union attached to it.)
Was in a union when I worked in a supermarket for seven years. Would I join a union now? Yes, I would.
Lord Lucan? I know two of them:
Lord Lucan – British cavalry commander at Balaklava.
Lord Lucan – Few-times-great-grandson of the above, who disappeared in the '70s after the murder of his children’s nanny.
I joined the clerical workers’ union (affiliated with the teachers’ union) as soon as I became eligible. I’d always wanted to be a union member!
After reading the responses with definitions of “extrovert” and “introvert,” I went back and changed my response. I’ll talk to anyone; conversation comes very easily to me, and once I get past my social anxiety, I can have a good time socializing. But I by far prefer being alone, and I need frequent time away from other people in order to recharge.
I used to donate blood every 8 weeks, and I participated in a study that collected plasma from people with vitiligo one summer. But I’ve always had really difficult veins, and when I had emergency hernia surgery a few years ago, the anesthesiologist who was finally able to start an IV around the scar tissue told me I should consider preserving my veins for my own future use.
I’ve never been in a union. I asked my gf and she’s never been in one either.
I worked at a supermarket for 10 years, late 1970s to early 1980s, and was in a very strong union. Our wages were, for that time, very generous.
For a period of time I had more money than I knew what to do with. I remember just sticking $100 bills in an envelope in my dresser.
It was nearly impossible to get fired. I knew a guy who came in late and drunk to his midnight shift. The door was locked and nobody heard him knocking on the glass, so he kicked the large glass window in. He was terminated, but the union got him his job back after a couple weeks, with back pay.
mmm
I cleaned salmon for a summer in Ketchikan Alaska whn I was 16. We were members of the Longshoreman’s Union. Made good money that summer. Good over time and double time rules.
I was also a member of SEIU when I was a public defender. (the hourly rate was probably lower than cleaning fish)
Total whiff on the composer poll, but again the poll maker left out the NOTA option…
Last category of note that we haven’t done yet would be artists (painters/sculptors).
I found the spoiled cheat sheet on the literary characters interesting. I had read a number of those books. I guess I just don’t remember names.
Oops - sorry about that. Was so focused on doing an alphabetical list that I forgot the NOTA.
How has anyone not heard of Vivaldi? The Four Seasons seems to be ubiquitous. I’m just surprised, is all…
I know Ketchikan from The Young Pope. It did not make it look appealing.
Not in a union but my spouse did a stint as treasurer of the union for a while.
There you go. NOTA option sorted.
It’s a mixed bag. Some beauty, a lot of rain. In those days, pretty rough around the edges. I wonder if all the cruise ship traffic has changed things. Back in1976, we got maybe 2 ships per summer.
Well, TYP portrayed it as “blizzardy wasteland”.
Come to think of it, I don’t know who Antonia Vivaldi is.
Oh FFS
I need a union option for “I’m retired but worked union jobs.”
No Dieterich Buxtehude or Karol Szymanowski?
Not even close. Spruce trees, mountains, and on the coast. Not much snow. Could be rainforest though
