Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

After 7420 posts, I think it’s time we have a poll on the discussion thread for the “Polls Only” thread just to see where we stand on the subject. I’ll start working on it.

For the YouTube poll, I had to answer that I visit the site daily - but it’s because 90% of the links people post here go to YouTube. I’m not actually watching all of those (whatever happened to articles you could just read for yourself?).

I tend to avoid youtube almost all the time. I find that many start with commericals.

AIUI, it’s also that it increases interest in the lottery. Showing stories about how some average Joe the Plumber, with a life most Americans can relate to, just won $900 million makes people likelier to think, “Hey, that could be me.”

It could also be good PR for the lottery if the win is heartwarming given someone’s condition, such as a cancer patient winning it, or some “deserving” person winning, in the hearts of the public.

I go to YouTube every day to play math videos for my son while he brushes his teeth.

I go to it periodically otherwise. I like Self-Improvement YouTube and stuff on popular entertainment. Right now my husband and I are making our way through a three hour treatise on the rise of personal noir in fiction.

I like YouTube a lot. I pay to remove ads. Which isn’t always effective when influencers drop ads into their shows, but oh well. The final straw was when I had to sit through a 20 minute ad to watch a fitness video.

I don’t have to watch ads on Youtube. Oh, maybe ten seconds or so before the Skip Ads button comes up.

I mostly watch animal rescue and dachshund videos. It can be an incredible time sink.

That’s what I’m talking about. I really hate that. To be fair, I get the same thing with a lot of internet videos, not just youtube. But, that’s one reason I typically avoid internet videos.

Youtube wise, I’m there frequently, probably on average every day, which is why I voted like that. But my habits may be a bit of an outlier. See, I’ll almost never watch youtube, outside of Legal Eagle, a quality link from -here-, or one of the 2 channels I sub too (an average of 1-2 videos a MONTH).

But I’ll have Youtube on in the background streaming music to me based on my prior selections almost as much as I do with Amazon Prime music. I have a metric ton of video game / pop culture musical cover groups subbed, and so if I put on a stream based on that, it’s pleasant but quite a different experience from watching a ton of videos.

Lottery winner: Family and closest of friends, like about two. And since DesertWife died of ALS, Lease a suite at Chase Field, load it with Lou Gherig memorabilia, then except for two seats a game, hand control of it over to the Arizona chapter of the ALS Association for use as a fund-raiser.

RIP RFK Stadium. :blue_heart:

In the 80s there was nothing like it. The whole place shook, it was nuts.

Monday night football games in the 70s against the Cowboys, the camera would shake.

I finally managed to make a pilgrimage to it five or six years ago, but it’s just a derelict building now.

Yeah I went to a few events there over the last decade or so, usually soccer games, and it was pretty sad. It was clear there was zero maintenance happening.

Re: computers
To date I’ve replaced or installed

So much RAM
So many graphics card
Power supply
Fan
DVD drive

For some reason trying to add a hard drive or replace thermal paste has made me lose my nerve.

Oh, and did anyone else have trouble with the Youtube question? I’ve used YouTube multiple times a day the past 2 weeks, but other than watching some movie trailers, it has all been to upload lectures and captions for an online course at work.

Also among the missing Britcoms from MrMustards list, my all time favorites “Waiting for God” and 'Chef!"

Does anyone else remember Hot l Baltimore?

Damn right I do.

So I’ve watched a heck of a lot of these shows, possibly even enjoyed them enough that I saw the entire series, but those which I would describe as favorites are fairly rare. I don’t know if that was the intention, but that’s how I voted.

Spaced, but no Black Books?

It’s been a few years- might be time for a re-watch.

Not enuf SDMBers have see “My World and Welcome to It” I am guessing,

I concur.

I remember a TV sit com about a company that made very dangerous products, it lasted maybe one or two seasons?
