Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

I was so busy vetoing red states, I forgot to veto New Jersey.

I actually have lived in both New Jersey and Florida and would not return to either.

New Jersey is pretty nice in many areas, minus the appalling traffic. I lived in a very nice, green, pedestrian-friendly area of Florida and it couldn’t make up for the oppressive humidity.

Florida - It’s a terrible place to visit, but you wouldn’t want to live there.

In general, I’ve pretty much ruled out the east coast after having lived there for 6 years. I cannot see any good reason to live there.

For the foreseeable future, I’ll either be in California (my favorite continental-US state) or Texas (where family is.)

I do not think that giving out birth year and having the result public is such a good idea.

Huh. I’d live in NJ again, for a good enough reason.

No way would i live in fascist Florida, though.

Last year I got mail every fucking day about Medicare. You think nobody knows your birth year?

I do not believe that that is the appropriate verb for dealing with that situation.

Why not?

Abortion is temination of a viable pregnancy. Ectopic is absolutely non-viable and is life-threatening.

I never heard of that distinction before.

And if it were standard, people carrying non-viable pregnancies that aren’t imminently life-threatening to the pregnant person wouldn’t, in a number of states, be being forced to continue them.

That is commonly claimed by people who are anti-abortion, but that’s not the medical definition. A miscarriage is termed a spontaneous abortion in medical usage.

And your can bet your booties that doctors in states that outlaw abortions are afraid to terminate an ectopic pregnancy. There have already been cases of women told to come back when they are in imminent risk of dying (or to travel to a better state.)

Am I eating those peppers raw, or in a recipe? I’m not particularly interested in any pepper raw.

Anyway, their doctor, and all of us, talked about their choices for for how to abort it. There were medical and surgical options. That was true of another friend who had an ectopic pregnancy, too. She desperately wanted the baby, had undergone artificial insemination to get pregnant, and then told me she’d had to have an abortion.

I hadn’t considered this, but I don’t think it makes a difference as long as you’re not diluting the pepper (like making a hundred gallons of soup with one pepper in it and eating the soup).

Up until this summer, the Texas anti-abortion law included ectopic pregnancies.

Texas has quietly changed its abortion law : NPR

There are still states that don’t have health exceptions for abortion.

I won’t even visit Florida. Which is unfortunate for my in-laws who live there.

I’m agreeing with @puzzlegal on this one. Miscarriage is not a medical term. There are spontaneous abortions (miscarriages), therapeutic abortions (to save the mother or because the embryo/fetus is not viable-which an ectopic pregnancy never is) or elective abortions.

My life was saved by a therapeutic abortion after a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. Fortunately I was in Massachusetts at the time and there were no impediments to my receiving that abortion.

My dental hygenist said to floss first, then brush. So, I do.

I had bacon with my Belgian waffle for breakfast. First time back in person to one of our favorite restaurants. And the manager recognized us and welcomed us back. But she was always great at her job.

Oh, and I stopped at the dry cleaners on the way home. I had the clerk check to see if I had anything to pick up. I thought I might, but wasn’t sure. I did have something. From 2022. Yikes. My Smokey Bear Pendleton blanket.

I’m not sure if I’m bragging about this or admitting it, but I brush first with an electric toothbrush and special dental gel, then I floss, then use the water-pik, then finish up with the electric toothbrush and fluoride gel. This routine takes about 15 minutes a night, but since I started doing it, the pockets that had been developing in my gums have shrunk and my teeth always feel like I’ve just had a professional cleaning right before I go to bed.

It makes a difference. I like peppers when they are cooked in things. I don’t chomp on raw peppers of any kind. If it was raw peppers I would have voted for none of them.
