Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

February. Too cold. Hate snow. Football is over and baseball is still far away.

There are people named America

I know an American Clive, and several Ians.

I know, there’s millions of us, sure to be a Clive here and there.

But “Een”? No sir no ma’am we pronounce it Ee-yan and don’t you forget it podner.

Ditto. And i know Americans with some of the other names, too

January is worse than February because it’s first quarter/grant reporting hell. And a big complicated application due every year.

February is not great either but I’m usually looking forward to my early March birthday, so it’s more bearable.

My thoughts exactly.

One of my daughter’s best friend’s is named “Daria”. She’s a lovely girl and I have to bite my tongue when I see her because she bears a strong resemblance to the animated character of the same name. (I once discreetly asked my daughter if her friend was aware of the Daria series, and apparently she is.)

But February made me shiver
With every paper I’d deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
I couldn’t take one more step…

I assumed @psychonaut’s names polls referred to first names only, though he didn’t explicitly say so. I have known people with Harris as a last name.

I also wish those polls had had a “None of the above” option, to distinguish between people who didn’t know anyone with any of those names and people who just didn’t bother to participate.

December is my least favorite month. Because by then we’re already into the third month of Christmas and it gets ramped up to 11. I tend to be in a very bad mood until 12/26, then I’m fine again

In Germany and Austria, Christmas is on both 25 and 26 December, but there’s no commercially driven tradition of starting the holiday season three months early. Here in Vienna it’s only been in the past week that the city put out its street lights. Most stores are only just putting their decorations up.

Which is as it should be… although I’d prefer they wait until December 1. I’ve already seen two houses with Christmas trees trimmed and lit up!

Yes, I once met a couple at a party named Graham and Beryl. They were British.

Here in the Sacramento area we start seeing spring-like weather in mid February. With the weather starting to turn warmer and the winter rains, February is the time when you really start seeing plants start to grow and everything is green outside. So unlike most of the poll respondents I kind of like February, in California at least. I’m sure my opinion would be different if I lived in, say, Chicago.

But that being said, I picked April as my favorite month, since that’s when the wildflowers are typically at their peak.

August in Sacramento is just oppressively hot, with temperatures sometimes in the triple digits Fahrenheit, and dry. So that’s my least favorite.

The flowers are nice, I have to admit, the huge fields of california poppies blooming, for instance.

On the boy’s list I know a Finley. On the girl’s list I know a Willow.

Both are dogs.

I used to babysit a Willow back in the late 60s. And she was not a dog.

I saw a movie about you today!

Humbug!

My Willow is on the couch next to me. She doesn’t think she’s a dog. But she is.
