My air fryer has a “dehydrate” mode, but the basket is so small it’s barely worth it to use it. I’ve successfully dried sliced strawberries in very small batches.
I will never own a home that doesn’t have a working dishwasher. The rest of the list is extra stuff.
Some of those “appliances” felt more like tools, especially the immersion blender, but whatever. I picked dishwasher, food processor, and instant pot.
Dishwasher, because last time my dishwasher broke and I hand washed all my dishes my water use went up by about 25% - and that leaves out the time needed. Food processor is really useful for anyone that cooks a lot, and can (depending on model) do a solid job as a blender (immersion not as easily, granted) so it’s a big multitasker. Instant pot, because it’ll do a lot of things okay, so it’s slightly more versatile than my slow cooker or air fryer.
I haven’t had a bologna sandwich in quite some time. Probably since I was a kid. I’m guessing there’s a good reason for that, and it’s that bologna is kind of gross. It’s like a flat cold hot dog, but I might have one if offered one just for nostalgia’s sake, and I don’t have to commit to a whole package of the stuff.
I don’t like having to give up my coffee maker, but I have to admit I use my microwave and toaster oven more, and I’ll keep the dishwasher since it supposedly conserves water compared to hand washing. I can switch to a French press for making coffee. I assume that doesn’t count as an appliance.
In order:
- Dishwasher
- Coffee maker
- Microwave
I can live without everything else, if necessary.
mmm
Dishwasher for sure. I hated not having a dishwasher.
I use the microwave a lot. That was number two.
Then there are a lot of appliances i use regularly and would miss. I ended up picking the stand mixer, rather than the toaster oven or instant pot. I use both the instant pot and the toaster oven more, but i have options to replace their functions. The oven can be used for everything the toaster oven does, and i still have an old fashioned pressure cooker for beans. Although maybe i don’t have a good way of making yogurt without the instant pot. Still …
Tough choices.
After dishwasher I had to vote for coffee maker. I don’t drink coffee but that’s to keep my wife sane which keeps me happy.
I did notice that the poll didn’t say you couldn’t have anything else, just that you couldn’t keep it in your kitchen.
There are fancier foods, but I’ve never been let down by a ham and cheese sandwich.
The only allergy I know about is to bactrim. Which consists of two antibiotics, so I don’t know if I’m only allergic to one of them or both in combination.
I didn’t have braces per se. I had a retainer. I had a fairly pronounce overbite, and that was corrected well enough.
I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen poison ivy, but I have seen and avoided poison oak.
Waffling between the ham sandwich and just eating the fruit. I hate mayo on white with a soggy slice of tomato. I dislike that enough that i often skip the rest of the sandwich, too.
You could always get a Melitta or french press. I wouldn’t think either of those count as appliances
This was largely the reason for my “take the fruit and drink” option. Outside a very, very few catering options, the mayo (or miracle whip) is the lowest common denominator - just adding a fatty, watery element that sogs the rest of the sandwich. Combined with almost certainly out of season / gassed and shipped flavorless tomato, limp lettuce, and even if the meat filling had been a favorite (and none were) or just plain inoffensive (like the cheese option) the result would be me just gagging it down at best.
This is another of those places where if this is the lunch being offered, I often ask for the kosher option (which no one questions with my very traditional name even if I’m almost entirely secular), or the vegetarian/vegan option. Which is often… you guessed it, the fruit and drink box. Or sometimes the ‘normal’ sandwich where they hold the mayo and cheese, but those are still likely screwed up more often than not in my experience.
I ate the exact same lunch every school day, literally, from 7th grade through 9th grade:
Two bologna sandwiches: White bread, bologna, American cheese, and mustard.
I probably haven’t had once since, but I sure could go for one now.
mmm
Food processor, stand mixer, air fryer. Dishwasher and coffee maker were on the list, but we can do without them.
I had a lunch place that served ham and cream cheese on raisin bread. Damn that was a good sandwich
I don’t want any of the other things. I hate small appliances cluttering up my space.
I made exceptions for an immersion mixer (which doubles as a food processor, which I pronounce “foop”), and a crock pot. I’ve used them each once and contemplate throwing them in the quarry.
There’s a reason mortar and pestle are better than a foop. Earn your food.
Microwave and toaster.
I hate wolveines.
