Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 1)

Food truck poll. The poll confused the heck out of me. Are a lot of people having bad experiences eating food truck offerings? I’ve never had a bad meal from a food truck and many of the ones I’ve had make me want to run back for more. It’s delicious food for the most part and if not delicious, at least adequate. Yay for food trucks!

Ditto. I’ve had mediocre food from food trucks. I’ve had good food from food trucks. I’ve never had food that made me sick, or was gross in any way. I don’t even think I’ve even had bad food from food trucks.

I plan to swing by a food truck tomorrow, to pick up lunch to eat at a friend’s house, in fact.

No option for “I am American: WTFH is poutine?”

Are you talking about this one?

It took me a while to notice, but I’m pretty sure it’s a joke about the typo in the earlier food truck poll, which said “eat a food trucks” when it should have been “eat at food trucks.” So it’s a joke about literally eating a truck.

Oh, yeah. It was just a comment on the typo. Sorry.

We have a handful of food trucks that we seek out, visiting local breweries when they are there. One serves Korean street food, one tortas and bravas, one sushi, one arepas.

The Pacific Northwest is all about the food trucks.

I’ve seen a ton in Portland, OR. But in my area, they’re rare. I must say I don’t get the concept entirely, but I’m game to try one (or two).

Yikes, I left out my Indian friend. His truck is in the top 3. Shout out to Billu!

This food truck discussion made me realize, I mentioned Chando’s Tacos in the OP of my thread on local restaurant chains. But I have never actually set foot in a brick and mortar Chando’s restaurant – there aren’t any all that close to me. I’ve only ever eaten from their food truck. I still stand by my assertion that they make the best burritos in Sacramento.

The number has increased, and several I know of have moved to restaurants. Corvallis Oregon is a good example–clusters of trucks wirh tables.

I’ve been to two different types of food trucks.
The first is the kind you see now. Rolling kitchens that offer one type of food and do it well.

The other kind was a sort of rolling convenience store that would come to the warehouse I worked at in in my younger years.
It had coffee, pastries and sandwiches, possibly other food that I don’t remember.

All that to say that I can understand getting food from a food truck and getting sick after

IIRC the “gourmet” food trucks you see today grew out of the 2008 recession. Many aspiring chefs weren’t able to get loans to start real restaurants, but they could afford to buy a food truck.

Before that food trucks mostly had the reputation as the “roach coach” that would roll up to constructions sites at lunch time.

Completely missed it. And I used to proofread documents for a living. My how things change as time goes on.

I’ve never had that problem with food trucks even before the recession. Though one truck I had to frequent was more on the order of a 7/11 food counter on wheels while another offered salmon and tuna burgers and salads. I guess I’ve been lucky.

I haven’t seen an old-fashioned roach coach in ages. Decades ago when I was on jury duty one used to pull up outside the courthouse. Their food wasn’t anything special or exotic, but it was better than the courthouse cafeteria food.

There used to be one that would park in front of my office building at noonish. They sold a whole mishmash of different kinds of food – burritos, sandwiches, an Asian style rice plate, hot dogs, and I think they probably had burgers. It wasn’t anything special, but it wasn’t bad. They stopped coming several years ago, before the pandemic even. I guess they found greener pastures.

Enjoyed some beers at Leaning Cask, an English style brewery. We went there specifically to eat from the food truck which was Pittsburgh Tortas. I get an Eggplant Torta, my gf gets a Chicken Verde Torta, and we trade halves.

In my skywriting post, “Kermit Thee Frog” in not a typo. That’s how Kermit always says his name!

I thought the Stacy Abrams drawing was Bea Arthur. :frowning:
