I thought you had the choice of receiving $1000 or directing the person offering you $1000 to give $10000 to someone else, instead. You don’t give away anything either way.

This is the way I interpreted it as well. I didn’t vote because I would have been one to give away the $10K. It would make a much bigger difference in someone’s life than an extra $1000 would do for me.

I get up at 7am weekdays, but like sleeping in, usually until 9am or so, on weekends. Haven’t noticed that it’s messed up my sleep patterns after all these years.
I wake up at more or less the same time every day, but go to bed later some nights than others. I want sure how to answer the question.

And what I would have been thinking if I’d taken the 1000 and then found out about the rest of the deal wouldn’t have been either of the options. I’d have been thinking, “Damn! I knew I should have been a better person!”
I’m currently going through the torture of working overnights. On work days I go to bed at around 7am. I wake up when I wake up. On non-work days I try to sleep like a normal human with varying levels of success.
I think studies have found that a consistent schedule is better than changing every day. You might be less uncomfortable if your just switch to a virtual time zone that matched your work.
I have a friend, with whom I play MMORPGs, who used to work a night shift. On her days off, she’d keep to her night-shift sleep-wake schedule, meaning she’s be logging on to play around 10pm or so, after she’d woken up, had breakfast, etc.

bows Thank you! I still need to tweak the brightness a bit. And, no, he’s not my cat. 
My comfort isn’t high on the list of considerations. The extra money jobs I can get start at 7am-9am on my days off. And the humans and animals in my life are not on my schedule.
If someone can explain the shopping list poll to me, I’m all ears.
