Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 2)

I love traveling and seeing new places.

But I always love getting back home when the trip is over, too.

mmm

Tupac was brilliant in Gridlocked. If he had lived and gone into acting he would have gotten an Oscar eventually.

I usually get my eggs from Costco - they say they’re cage-free, but occasionally one of the farms around here will have a sign advertising fresh eggs. We’ll buy those when we can - it keeps the money local, and chickens who eat grass and bugs make tastier eggs, in my opinion.

Our friend has chickens, and we get all sorts of interesting colors when we buy eggs from her.

I may have mentioned this before, but I used to travel around the world for business, and every single morning my breakfast was scrambled eggs, coffee, and some kind of side. The wide range in how eggs tasted (from sulfurously awful to gloriously eggy) always kind of amazed me. (I mean, I get it, but every breakfast felt like a surprise coming)

I’m hating flying more and more as I get older. I do like being at my destination. I voted mostly.

I also said mostly due to the travel itself. If I could teleport we’d be traveling to the limits of what we can afford.

We’re about 85 minutes from the airport, so that’s a drive I don’t enjoy starting and ending most vacations. The rest, however, we love. It’s improved by the fact we generally fly first class, and take advantage of the airline lounges at most airports.

We don’t often travel to visit relatives, but when we do, we stay at hotels instead of their houses, and that helps a lot.

We also love being at home. So, travel is nice, and then we’re happy to be home again.

I voted for a bunch of those slogans. But there were three or four I remembered but couldn’t identify the product, so I had to leave them unvoted. Pretty sure the spicy meatball had something to do with an indigestion remedy, but that’s as far as I can go without Google.

Spicy meatball got me too. I remember it, but not the product.

Are we looking for products, or brands? I know “put a tiger in your tank” is for gasoline, but I can’t remember which brand.

My intention was being able to identify the specific brand, not just the product category.

Some of those were actually from before I was born, yet I was still familiar enough with them that I knew what product they were for. You can’t discuss the Chrysler Cordoba in a car forum without someone chiming in to mention the “rich Corinthian leather”.

I’m pretty sure United still uses the “friendly skies” line in their safety videos, even if they don’t use it in their advertising anymore. I think that’s where I heard it recently.

Same.

That’s the way I took it. Some of them were very familiar to me, but I couldn’t remember the brand, so didn’t check them. If I was pretty sure of the brand, I did check them, even if I wasn’t absolutely sure.

And I had no idea that ‘you’ll wonder where the yellow went’ was engraved so deeply in my brain that the next line (with the brand name) came up instantly. I don’t think I’ve thought of that in roughly 50 years.

I have no idea what color the shells were, but I had the best tasting omelette on a trip from L.A. to Eureka when I stopped in Hopland for breakfast (after an overnight in Sacto). It was a bog standard Ortega/Swiss cheese omelette, but the eggs themselves were delicious. I figured it must be the freshness since Hopland is so close to Santa Rosa (which fancies itself the egg capital of the world).

Kris and Willie were perfect in the sadly neglected film “Songwriter.” Of course, they were basically playing slightly fictional versions of themselves.

Elvis is sui generis.

Despite my qualifier, I got a huge host of NOTA votes for my adaptation polls. Are THAT many people unfamiliar with the film What Dreams May Come, or am I once again a victim of Doper Semantic Nitpickiness Syndrome?

I am unfamiliar.

Well, my problem is, I have seen all three movies, but I have not read any of the books. I didn’t clutter it up with NOTA. I just skipped the polls.

I voted in most, I’ve read the V for Vendetta graphic novel and seen the movie, same for The Shining. I have seen What Dreams May Come, but NOT read the novel, and for Wonka, we have what, 3 adaptations to date? I assumed the Wilder one, due too timing and death, but he likely would have hated them all.
