Yeah, I give it 50/50. trump has a HUGE ego, but he also loves to weasel out of things.
I don’t have a salad spinner or a bamboo steamer (what is a bamboo steamer? a steamer that’s only meant for bamboo? a steamer that’s made out of bamboo?) and I think there’s a wok somewhere but it’s not on top of the refrigerator. What is on top of the refrigerator is assorted laundry soaps (the washing machine’s next to it), empty egg cartons waiting to be given to somebody with chickens, and a box full of – something, I really ought to take a look in there. Pretty sure that’s not where the wok is, though.
Oh yes, and sometimes a cat.
And it would probably depend on what the two numbers were. Some of them I could do in 2 seconds. I expect I could do most of them in under 20 seconds but am not sure, am not going to bother experimenting to find out, and didn’t vote in that one.
I have something I call a bamboo steamer that I use for making sticky rice. It is woven (bamboo?) material, sits atop a pot of water. I bought it from a craftsperson in Vietnam. I could use my regular steamer and get the same result, but I like having fun in the kitchen.
I use my bamboo steamer for everything that requires steaming. We have a metal Western steamer (for want of a better term) which my husband uses for everything that requires steaming. I grew up with the metal kind, but the bamboo ones are a superior design IMHO. This gives me an idea for a poll.
It’s one of these things. Useful item to have, but kind of awkward to store. You can’t nest anything inside it, and you can really only put it inside something really large, like a wok, or any other pan you would use it with, but you probably use that pan more often than you use the steamer, so you constantly have to move it. So you store it on top of the refrigerator. Or at least that’s how it works for me.
I also have one of those folding metal ones with the little legs. Sometimes I use it as a colander.
I guess that’s the more common dumpling steamer. Mine is a cone with a woven lid. I wrap my glutinous rice in cheesecloth and steam it in the basket over simmering water.
I cannot answer the shampoo/conditioner poll because it is about “we”. My gf uses all sorts of stuff on her hair and I do not know (nor care about) the specifics. Meanwhile I use bar soap in the shower and nothing else.
I came to say the same thing. I don’t use conditioner, so I selected that one. My wife does, but I have no idea which she goes through faster. I don’t pay attention. When I’m in the shower with her, my thoughts are elsewhere.
Thanks, everybody, for the bamboo steamer explanations. I have a metal one, and have enough stuff in the kitchen that I’m not really looking to add more of it; but those do look interesting. Are they easy to clean?
The shampoo I’m currently using works OK without conditioner; voted that I don’t use it. When I used a different shampoo and used conditioner, it was years ago, and I don’t remember which one ran out faster, and am not sure that I ever kept track of that – I would have put each on the shopping list when I finished a bottle and started the next, but doubt I paid any attention to how often each went back onto the list.
I only use shampoo, not having much in the way of hair. The wife and daughter use shampoo and conditioner. So “we” use both, but collectively use more shampoo.
Clean? Heh. I just rinse and air dry. The rice is wrapped in cheesecloth, so there is nothing to clean.
I answered, “No, there’s a cabinet directly over my refrigerator. So… yes.” But technically the refrigerator is also part of the cabinet, as it’s built in.
I have a metal steamer and a steam oven. Sometimes I’ve been tempted to buy a bamboo steamer, but I also wonder how to keep it clean.
How does that differ from a Bain-marie? (I have neither)
I actually do store my wok on top of my fridge.
There’s also a cabinet directly above the fridge, but since you have to stand on a chair to reach it the only things that get stored in there are things that get used very rarely.
Same here. We put the booze up there so the kids would have a really hard time getting into it. Was never an issue anyway.
A bunch of polls to respond too!
Storing stuff on top of fridge - Yes and No. No, because the cats jump from counter to top of fridge, and from there to the mini-interior wall that separates the kitchen from the living/dining area. They do NOT want their passage restricted. Yes, because the house has a small cabinet above and behind the fridge, which I put stuff in that I rarely want access too, and my wife never uses due to comparative height.
Steamers - I don’t have a bamboo one, but I have one of the foldable leaf steamer inserts, steamer options for the pressure cooker, and steamer inserts for my full-sized stockpot. So it depends on the size of what I’m steaming, the number of batches, and so forth.
Shampoo - I use a 2-in-1 for my hair, and my wife has shampoo, conditioners for washing, and leave in conditioners for her thick hair which is kept semi-long as a grudging acceptance of my preferences. But she doesn’t use all of them on an equal basis, nor does she wash her hair every day. And the bottle sizes are so utterly disproportionate as to make the poll non-functional for her. So I voted based on my use only.
Spirograph - I got a new one for my wife 2ish years ago as a fun little stocking-stuffer bonus present.
My wife and I mostly use shampoo bars.
No bamboo steamer. We do have a bread machine and a espresso machine, both used only once or twice.
Yeah the we tripped me up. I use shampoo. I don’t use conditioner. My wife has all manner of unctions and ointments. I don’t mess with that stuff.
Heh, the “we” tripped me up enough that I answered with a poll.
- I use shampoo only
- My husband uses a combined product
- My daughter uses both shampoo and conditioner
I have no clue what our “average” answer would be. I answered for me.
I have a cabinet above the fridge, but there’s a few inches in between, and we keep stuff there, as well as in the cabinet.
I have some other steamers, but not a bamboo one.
