I had to do a deep into this setting when somehow one of my phones decided to randomly set itself to dark.
Do not like dark.

I have a will and an Advanced Directives document. When my gf looked at my Advanced Directives, she went to the kitchen and got a butcher knife. I asked what was going on, and she said she was just going to cut my throat now (I don’t want life support/CPR/etc).
Speaking of sad endings, I re-watched the series NYPD Blue recently and it really stood out how often characters were written out of the show by having them killed.
“Fire”, “higher”, and “liar” don’t quite rhyme, but if some poet or songwriter wanted to use them together, I would not quibble. “@#$% it, close enough.”
My company operates 24/7/365. I have to work on both Thanksgiving, and the day after.
Bruce Springsteen thanks you for your forbearance.
Anger and hanger have the same vowels, but the “g” is pronounced differently. The “g” in anger is much more pronounced, and it’s it’s own letter. The one in hanger is just the end of the “ng” sound.
I’m a big fan of dark mode, because I spend a lot of time at work and home starting at screens, and I do a LOT of reading, so again, helpful with eyestrain. Last but not least, if I’m reading in bed at night, whether a webpage or ebook, my wife who’s asleep gets light-bombed a whole lot less.
Now that is a good point*. I’m going to have to change my vote.
*and I’ve seen him perform it live !
He is, after all, the god of hell fire.
mmm
The crux of Planes, Trains.,… is that they are heading home- The fact it is Thanksgiving is not that relevant. Could be Christmas. However, the ending does have some of the Spirit of Thanksgiving.
Yeah, I do agree. I’m just procrastinating.
Re: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. I was watching the “Lost in the Pond” guy on youtube (English guy who married an American and now lives in (and is a citizen of) the US). He mentioned that his dad would get him a dvd everytime he went to London on a business trip, and one time brought back this movie. As a kid, he didn’t know much about Thanksgiving and always assumed this was a Christmas movie (for various reasons). So, the Thanksgivingness of it is very slight.
Like Jim Morrison?
You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn’t get much higher
Come on baby, light my fire
(Nitpick: VHS, not DVD).
Those reasons include the presence of snow and the fact that turkey is associated with Christmas in the UK. For anyone who cares, here’s the video in question, cued to the relevant section:
Thanks! Yeah, VHS.
The estrangement is the other party’s decision, not mine, and has to do with a family problem some 50 years ago that I was in no way involved in (other than by being on speaking terms with the other parties) and didn’t understand was happening.
(Yes, I’m somewhat annoyed about this. No, I can’t do anything about it.)
My estrangement has been with one of my cousins. He and I are the same age, we grew up together, and were close friends as kids and teenagers (my parents and his parents were co-owners of a hardware store, and he and I worked at the store together).
Though we grew apart as adults, due to distance and different life paths, we still got along well, and whenever we’d see each other at family gatherings, we’d have a great time catching up.
And, then, Trump happened. Around 2018, my cousin completely went around the bend on MAGA stuff, to the point that he got himself banned from Facebook for what he was posting. I haven’t seen or heard from him since around that time: he no longer comes to family gatherings, and he stopped communicating with me. I still hear about what’s going on in his life, from his sister and their parents, and while I haven’t chosen to cut him out of my life, he seems to have made that choice for himself.
Here’s your new chance to vote for spotted dick:
Apropos of my British sweet dishes poll:
I had my first cream tea at the Jamaica Inn. It was wonderful. I had my eyes peeled for cream teas after that . Once we were in a small village, and there was a poster for the upcoming fete on a fence. It’s biggest lettering said “Cream Tea and Aerobics.”
I recently saw a recipe for British bread pudding, and it was enough different from the bread puddings I’ve had in the US, that I didn’t check that one off.
I haven’t had any of the sweet British dishes listed in the poll, at least not that I can recall. But I did have something called a “jammy joe” in Belfast last year, and I was told that was a quintessential British dessert. Google seems to think I mean “jammy joey”, so maybe that’s what it’s actually called.
For the estrangement, I’ve lost most of my cousins. In one case I cut ties (multiple convictions for sex crimes to do with minors: I have no regrets). In the other cases, it’s a combination of geography, religion, a toxic aunt, and my being gay. Again, no regrets—shared genes and history are not worth having unpleasant people in your life.
For the British sweet dishes, I’m a connoisseur of Welshcakes, which are made subtly differently by each Welsh person. I do not like trifle at all. I’ve never had anything as delicious as a jam tart.
