When I was 4(?) I was on the local Romper Room. I wish I could get a copy of the show, because I was already showing signs of ADHD
When I was 12, I was in the audience for the weekly TV show that was hosted by Bart Starr – at that time, the head coach of the Green Bay Packers. I asked him a question during the Q&A segment, so I was on TV there.
About five years ago, I was interviewed by a reporter on one of the local stations here in Chicago, about a big delay that happened on the commuter train system; the interview with me ran on all of that station’s newscasts for the day.
I volunteered for a work activity years ago and the local news was there covering it (musta been a slow day). The event had something to do with cancer research, so they asked around if any of us were “cancer survivors” and I tepidly raised my hand.
I did have a melanoma removed and I am cancer free, but I hardly count myself as a “survivor” - like those that have endured chemo and radiation. But only two other people raised their hand, and the producer asked for three people. So on camera we went. The reporter I knew, but she was much shorter than appearing on TV. Anyway, she asked us each a question and the segment aired on the local evening news. My 15 seconds of fame.
I’ve been on TV three to six times, depending how you’re counting.
I was on an episode of a local kid’s tv show (The Trooper Yancy Show) when I was a kid.
I was on a high school quiz show (Scholars for Dollars) broadcast by a local station. Our team won twice so we were on three episodes.
I was on a college quiz show that was broadcast by the college station. Our team won once so we were on two episodes.
I was an extra on quite a few TV shows, movies, and commercials a few years back. Some you may actually have seen, though you definitely didn’t notice me.
I was given some lines in an episode of “I (Almost) Got Away With It,” but they were cut, so I didn’t choose that option.
When I was 20, I was on the local news. I was selling plasma and there was some controversy about the place. It was dirty and the physician on site (required by law) was an elderly guy who technically was an MD, but was senile. They didn’t show my face, just a closeup of my check with my name blurred out.
The news woman asked me if the dirty conditions bothered me and I answered that as long as my check was good I was happy.
Not me, but my son was on the local news when he was in third grade, in a report about the teachers strike at his school.
My sister has a funny story about being on TV. This was back when she was living in Houston. There was a local station that had a reporter out doing a fluff story on Christmas shopping. He was interviewing people in a mall and one of the people he interviewed was my sister. He asked her some questions about her shopping experiences, including what she had bought that day.
That evening, she was watching the news with her young children in the room. And everyone was surprised to see Mom on the news - and then heard Mom talk about what gifts she had just bought.
There were no surprises under the tree that year.
I’m trying very hard to stay off of television. So far it’s working
I said I hadn’t been in the green room, but I forgot they had us in a holding room before we appeared on Millionaire, I wonder if that counts? I always think of the green room in terms of talk shows, though.
I go to the store with just my phone and my house key. I have my credit card on my phone so I technically always have a credit card on me.
My phone also has my virtual Swiss Pass, so I can use it for public transportation within the covered area. No car key needed.
I am ⅔ of the way of getting the full regime for the tick-borne encephalitis vaccine. I have an appointment for the third shot in March, as the regime requires a > 6 month delay between the 2nd and 3rd shot. It is not required, but recommended. Some years ago (pre-2020) it was not present in my area, so it wasn’t even offered. The tick has spread to my area and I like to go hiking, so it’s worth it.
And I didn’t get a flu shot this year. According to local recommendations, I don’t need it. I did mean to get one, but didn’t. Might have a chance this week. CoVID is also not on the table for me, as I am too young.
Everything else, I am up to date, according to my locality. I did get a DTaP last year, because I needed tetanus, and the doctor’s office only carries DTaP and the D and P aren’t going to hurt me. According to Switzerland, I’m too young for the shingles vaccine. In the U.S., I think it’s covered for my age. Not sure. Same for pneumonia.
I wear my bathrobe every morning between the ensuite bathroom, which has a tub, and the other bathroom, which has a shower. Weird arrangement, in my opinion.
I’ve been in buildings both with and without a 13th floor. I was born on Friday the 13th (but not yesterday), so I consider 13 to be lucky.
This. It’s fun. Sheesh.
Our license plate contains the last two digits if the year we got married, a 6 and then 69. Easy to remember.
If I was on tv, it was because I was at a football or baseball game, so it certainly wasn’t intentional.
I’ve been on television many times for classical music performances. And performing venues also have “green rooms”.
But I’ve also been on television in TV studios including the green rooms. In fact, I’ve got three Blue Peter badges.
Nice!
Junk drawer? I have a junk ROOM in my house. My wife says her goal for her 2-week Christmas vacation is to clean it out, but I’ll be impressed if she even gets it to the point where we can reach all four walls.
I have a junk room also. When everyone in my family died I brought all their stuff home that wasn’t thrown away so I didn’t have to rent a storage unit. Through the years it’s been reduced quite a bit but I really need to start consistently attacking it this year.
Plus my own stuff.
I’m working on it. It really isn’t all that bad.
I just want to have more of nothing in my life.
The real question is: do I have a non-junk drawer?
When I lived at home (through college), we had a junk drawer. But since living on my own, I’ve tried very very hard to avoid having one. My sister had some small plastic bins that she used to store her shoes in. When we remodeled, our gc put shoe shelves in our closets, and she didn’t feel the need for the bins. I took them and used them to store a lot of the things that used to go in a junk drawer (with p-tape labels on the front). There’s a shelf in the downstairs coat closet with a shelf which was the perfect size for two stacks of them. Really handy.
Plural is “cookies”.
Yeah. I don’t have a “junk drawer”, but i have junk in most of my drawers. I voted “other” because realistically, one could call many of our drawers “junk drawers”. Or not.
Do you also have junk in your trunk?
