Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 2)

You’re welcome.

I’m surprised it stays on.

I expected someone would say that. The windshield actually does a good job of, well, shielding me from the wind. As long as I don’t stick my head up above the top of the windshield while the car is in motion it stays on just fine.

I have a bunch of baseball caps, and I wear them at games, or when it’s cold enough to need a hat but not cold enough to need a stocking cap. The only time I’ve worn one backwards was when it was so windy in the direction I was walking that it was likely to be blown off otherwise, or when I was using binoculars or a telescope. And see: Dude Court by Joe Dator

I’ve only slept outside without a tent a couple of times, back in my Scouting days. It’s almost always better to be inside a tent, even in good weather, because otherwise around here you’re likely to wake up covered in dew.

The Straight Dope is so great I’ve recommended it to lots of people. My wife and sons even roll their eyes a bit when they hear me sing its praises to others.

Graceland is a terrific album, and I recognized the Paul Simon lyric immediately.

Not much of a pro football fan, but I ran the NFL team owner question by some others who are, and they all said they’d turn down the QB’s offer.

I am cranially inhirsute, so I wear a hat most of the time. Always a full-brim, messageless, logoless hat (except for that one beret). The brim is helpful when the sun is low in the sky, or the headlights of other cars are especially troublesome. In fact, when it is bright overcast, the brim can reduce all that whiteness.

I used to go camping as a scout, and later with the SCA.

Like eschereal, I flaunt the headskin, so hats are de rigueur. I have them from every college/university my Debate team has competed at, plus numerous others. The ones in current rotation are a battered Rainier Beer hat (Summer) and a Tagon’s Toughs hat (Winter.) (This one is out of production, but the logo looks like below.)

I would beg to differ. A baseball cap counts as a type of hat.

All caps are hats, but not all hats are caps.

A baseball cap is a subset of hats, but I’ve never heard the phrase “baseball hat” that I can recall.

I’ve always called it a baseball hat. I’ve never used the word cap.

Ergo you and I have not hung out together!

I have several baseball caps, which I wear with some regularity, in part because my hair has gotten quite thin on the top of my head.

I used to wear them while doing yardwork, but now that I’m more sun-aware, I wear a wide-brimmed hat when I’m out in the yard, to keep the sun off my ears and my neck.

I, too, have a convertible, and wear a baseball cap while driving it. However, if I’m on a road where I’m going above 35 or 40, I’ll turn the cap backwards, so the bill doesn’t catch the air and potentially cause the cap to fly off at highway speed.

Maybe it’s because I wear hats all the time and just call all of them…hats. Or the word hat just flows easier for me than cap.

To me a cap is something that goes on a bottle lol.

We all speak a little differently depending on how we’ve experienced our environment.

I wear all kinds of hats and have several baseball style hats with longer brims.

Right now I am wearing a jaunty Trinity Flat Cap from Mucros Weavers.

I just call it my favorite hat.

As long as I don’t tilt my head back, I never have an issue as it’s below the airflow over the windshield. However, my goto that lives in The Toy is more like this. It includes a ‘side visor’ (& whichever side is not in the sun gets buttoned up). I wear it with only one side down at a time. It also has neck protection & even a strap I can tighten so that it can’t go anywhere if it somehow manages to come off.

I call it either a “baseball cap” or a “hat,” but never a “baseball hat.”

Hmmm, on further thought, I think this is a clearer description of what I do.

In the Navy we called it a cover lol.

Yeah, well the navy calls toilets heads, floors decks, and propellers screws. I’m not sure that’s a good idea.

I wore a baseball cap today. I work part time and it’s part of the uniform. I should have worn my cold weather hat but I left it at home.

I have a surprising number of baseball caps for someone who rarely wears hats. When I’m down the shore I normally wear one of two Yankee caps I have one is the kind they wore for military appreciation day a few years ago and one is a spring training cap from 2021.

I don’t ever remember wearing one backwards.

Sorry, wrong thread. You may boo me now.
