Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 2)

That’s not a pageboy. It’s more a “Beatle cut.” And He-Man’s hairdo (in the cartoon provided) is closer to a bob. Not a pageboy either.

I hate muscle-bound bodies. Beyond a certain point (and Bronson looks fine with the musculture he has) it is literally cartoonish and unappealing to me.

Quoting Wikipedia (with my own emphasis to indicate the two characters referenced in the poll):

The pageboy or page boy is a hairstyle named after what was believed to be the haircut of a late medieval page boy. It has straight hair hanging to below the ear, where it usually turns under. There is often a fringe (bangs) in the front…

Although it is currently a hairstyle worn far more by women, many men have worn it, including characters such as Mowgli in Disney’s 1967 version of The Jungle Book, Luke Skywalker in 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope, He-Man in his 1980s incarnation, Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men, and the eponymous star of the American comic strip Prince Valiant.

The bob is a similar hairstyle, but usually much shorter. Admittedly there’s probably some overlap between long bobs and short pageboys.

I’m more familiar with the original pageboy which was shoulder length with a definite roll to the underturned hair. He-man’s is barely turned under. If asked I’d never call it a pageboy.

I’d look like a buff Toni Tenille. If it fixes the MG, sign me up

I’ll give props to @Karen_Lingel for some self-honesty, based on her pic…[of course it was her own poll…]

Give me the body. I’ll get used to wearing a hat.

Never had teeth knocked out but my front teeth were chipped when I was a kid.

As far as saving someone’s life, I performed CPR on my father after he had a heart attack. I kept it up until the EMT’s arrived and whisked him off to the hospital. Unfortunately my father fell into a coma from which he never recovered. They tell me that I did keep him alive but ultimately he was too damaged to survive. He passed within 24 hours.

These days I deliver blood for the Red Cross. I’m pretty sure I’ve had a hand in helping some people to survive but I’ll never know for sure.

I performed the Heimlich maneuver on two different people on separate occasions. I’d like to think they survived because of me.

I saved my brother’s life three times (attempted suicides) but the last one ended badly after 3/4 months.

Re cat form poll.

My answer would have been 24 hours if I didn’t need to pay my mortgage

I think this cat gig would be a ticket to $$$$$.

I had a baby tooth knocked out by trauma, long before it was supposed to fall out of its own. I don’t have any conscious memory of it, but i used to dream about falling on my face and losing a tooth, and then my mother told me that it actually happened.

But the question specified adult teeth, so i voted, “no”.

I have met one Xavier who pronounced his name according to Spanish rules. (The “X” was somewhere between an English “H” and “K”, the “A” was like in English “father”, and he trilled the “R”.)

I used to say iX-avier, but then I worked with two guys in our Spanish office both named Xavier/pronounced Ha-vier, so I got used to that, and when the poll popped up that’s how I said it. But it’s all good.

I have no idea how much I’d like being a cat, so a can’t really answer until I’ve tried out my power a few times.

I pronounce “Xavier” with a slight guttural stop before the first consonant. Sort of like '-zav-ee-er.

Why do people pronounce it ex-avier? You don’t say em-ichael or bee-ob so why would you pronounce the X as its own letter? People are weird.

Cats are generally pretty furry and in any case the smaller and more compact body size means it doesn’t take as much energy to keep warm. For this reason alone I’d probably take cat form when sleeping at night, and hopefully save some money on winter heating bills.

I was a kid but they are my adult teeth.

I have borderline insomnia, and yet have never seen a healthy cat have issues with sleep. So I, like @psychonaut, intend to try sleeping as a cat. Not to mention, they are superior stretchers!

My biggest concern with this plan is how my existing two cats will treat me once I gain house-panther status. This could be very good (warm, cozy sleeping on the bed) or a cutthroat battle for dominance!

I pronounced it that way as a kid because I didn’t know what to do with initial X, so I guessed.
