Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 2)

No, that was 2005.

I have never owned a car with a CD player (which is fine with me). My previous car (a 2007) had a cassette player, for which I had an adapter with an aux jack. My current vehicle has Bluetooth/USB/whatever else cars have nowadays.

No CD player. But it has a place on the dashboard to plug in a USB drive. So I can load a drive up with gobs of music, plug it in, and call up anything I want either through the touch-screen menu or by voice command.

My previous car, which I drove for about twenty years, had a CD player.

Not only does my car have a CD player, but I sometimes use it.

The car i drive doesn’t have a CD player. But the other one we own has one. It makes a fine way to mount a phone. (I have a phone mount that slides into that slot.)

Our cars (2019 and 2020) have no CD player. Which is okay, as we have no CDs.

That’s what prompted this poll. I also use the CD slot to mount a phone cradle.

My car is a 2023. No CD player or option to get one. Good thing too. I got rid of all my CDs.

I guess I’m on the opposite extreme.

My car has a CD player and I use it regularly.

I own an extensive CD collection and still buy CD’s.

If I bought a car without a CD player, I’d pay to have one installed.

My 2013 Honda Civic has an Aux jack as well as Bluetooth: the former is far more convenient: just plug in my music player and off I go. Oddly, unlike my 2006 Civic it has no USB drive connection (which in that car was in the glove compartment). I dislike Bluetooth because of the loss of fidelity and the pain/time wasted setting up the connection each time I drive, but Aux jacks are going the way of the dodo it seems.

I liked the CD era (perhaps we’re still in it). I had a fair amount of CDs. I don’t have any these days, nor a place to listen to them. I’m not enough of a “music person” to need them anymore. A little Pandora or SXM radio and my needs are met.

I still have my CDs (and some cassettes), but no place to play any of them.

I have a slight preference for buying CDs when possible, which, TBH, is less and less so as time goes on. Not that I play any of them in my car’s CD players, but I’ll still rip them (I have drives for the computers) and store the files on my tablet, NAS, computer, and phone.

So still have a few hundred CDs and 7-8 days worth of MP3s. Which I burn “Mix” CDs every year or so. Still, that’s for around town normally, for any trip longer than 20-30 minutes or so, I attached a Bluetooth adapter to my 2007’s aux port and play from my phone in the aftermarket wireless charging phone dash mount. The variety and voice controls, along with the navigation make it the superior choice for longer drives.

I still have lots of CDs around, all for use in the car.

I don’t like any of those groups/bands and couldn’t find any all-woman bands in the 80s that I did like. (funnily enough, X-Ray Spex disbanded in 1979, then intermittently reformed starting in 1991).

My Camry is 21 years old and came with a CD and cassette player and AM/FM radio, all of which still operate and all get used. As if that weren’t a bountiful enough array of choices, I got an 8-track player and mounted it under the dash. I’ve been playing that a lot lately.

I miss that satisfying ker-chunk when you hit the button to move to a different track.

I wish I had made more money while not having had less fun.

I should have bought all the comics, including then-old ones, I could lay my hands on until they started to be worth money; then sold most of them and bought Berkshire-Hathaway at 20-something a share.

(I should also have recognized that somebody specific was indeed making passes at me in college. I don’t know whether that would have been fun in the long run; but it would certainly have been fun for a while.)

Didn’t vote in that one. It reads to me like I have to pick either fun or money but can’t have both.

I’ve had both, also didn’t vote.

I was looking for the “Love ‘em both!” option on the Bangles/Go-Go’s poll.

Tough choice, but I had to give it to the Bangles because Susanna Hoffs.

Oh man, not me!

and she’s buy-uy-ing, a stair-air - …KER-CLUNK!.. - way, to heaven…
