Thank you.
I’m not quite sure if I last used a typewriter in the 2000s or 2010s. Police work became completely computerized surprisingly late. There were things that needed to be typed long after they should have been.
We stayed in a place with bunk beds. There was a ladder built into the frame of the bed on the end; however, they were in an alcove in the room that was maybe 2" bigger than the beds, meaning one couldn’t use the ladder. The room also had a wooden chair at the desk but even I (> 6’ tall) could barely use that as a step up & there was no way I wanted to get up to pee in the middle of the night when it was dark. I couldn’t be (upper body) on the bed & (foot) on the chair at the same time. It was a really stupid & unsafe design but my guess is that they didn’t have that many pairs staying there so it didn’t matter, & further a lot of people wouldn’t say anything & even if you did, what’s going to become of it by telling the desk clerk at 9pm; he most certainly has no authority to do anything about it & may or may not tell the manager, who then has to spend $ to fix the issue. IOW, until they get sued for someone literally breaking their neck I doubt it’ll be changed.
I’d hope to see the room first; how much headroom at either/both beds? Who is my companion & who can get to the top bunk easier?
Maybe the desk clerk’s got a ladder.
Maybe the desk clerk can help move the beds far enough out of the alcove to make their ladder accessible.
Maybe I could, or could have when younger and healthier, pull the beds out of the alcove myself. Was the room so small otherwise that this wouldn’t have worked?
I doubt the desk clerk would be allowed to leave the front desk to go upstairs.
Yes, it was a small room in NYC, if bed was pulled out all of the way then the bottom guy would have to suck in his gut to get around the bed frame.
Other things to say to my 18 year old self:
Buy all you can of these comic books. Then sell them when they’re worth money, and then use the stock tips.
Yes, X will be making passes at you, just ones you might not recognize. Take them up on it – I don’t know whether it’ll work out in the long run, but you’ll regret not having found out.
You’re going to be a farmer. Go ahead and go to college – and keep an eye out for this cat and these people – but start learning how to farm.
If I were answering the questionnaire on paper, I’d write “alternate days” into the margin. (Yes, I know there’s a fair chance that nobody would read it, or that they’d ignore it if they did.) If I were answering it on a computer form that wouldn’t let me do that, I wouldn’t answer that question.
I find alternating a med every other day is a huge PITA, so for select meds I just do it every MWF. Much easier to organize in my pill minder. Of course, if you’re on a critical med QOD you shouldn’t do that. But for me and my iron levels, q MWF works fine.
I think I’d be the mod everybody was complaining they couldn’t get ahold of, or if they’d once gotten ahold of couldn’t get a decision out of, in a reasonable length of time.
Me too. (tried to quote @thorny_locust, but didn’t work)
If I’m talking to my 18 year old self, I would tell myself to take better care of my teeth, join a crew team, and eat better.
“Technically March” would be a good band name.
I think I could be a fair-to-middlin’ mod if I decided I was really going to be serious about it and do it right.
I don’t think I would have the temperament to want to stick with it past the point where the novelty has worn off.
I would be the Matt Gaetz of Donald Trumps if I was a mod.
Challenge accepted!
I would tell myself that college is not like high school and you need to work a lot harder. Also switch majors; you’re right that computers are the next big thing but you don’t have the feel for it.
And also, take better care of your teeth.
I would not want to be a moderator. I spend plenty of time on this board but I wouldn’t want to feel like I had an obligation to be here in order to keep an eye on things.
Excuse me. I think I’m leaking brains after processing that combination.
A John Philip Sousa cover band?
Marches in the Mosh (pit)
I’m not familiar with enough of the listed movies to judge which is best.
