Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 2)

I dont follow Pro sports at all, but my Dad was a LA Angels fan, so when they are in the play-off I root for them.

I don’t like karaoke - neither my range nor my tone are well-suited for most pop songs. But if you’ve got an a cappella arrangement I’m in there.

I couldn’t carry a tune if it had handles; I know this & don’t embarrass myself by grabbing a mic in front of a crowd to sing

Yep. The only time I sing in public is in church, and that’s only if the people around me are singing. But I do like doing so, poor voice and all.

I have never participated in karaoke (although I enjoy watching others, in reasonable doses). And I never will. Didn’t vote.

I’ve done karaoke a couple of times, but the songs I “sang” weren’t on the list:

  • Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys
  • A Boy Named Sue

I know editing quotes is verboten but I figure it’s allowed to my own to fix a typo

I karaoked just once in my life. It was with a partner and I was tipsy.

We did Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Boxer”.

(I should have considered the endless li-le-lies toward the end of the tune)

mmm

The only song I’ll karaoke is “Tequila” by The Champs.

“A capella” and “arrangement” is a curious construction. Do you mean the karaoke machine provides the back-up vocals, and you sing the lead?

As for the World Series polls, I hesitated, for fear of threads***ing, but “I don’t care” was given as an option in both, so I answered.

For the first World Series poll, I don’t follow baseball at all, so I honestly don’t have a clue.

For the second poll, I do know enough to know that as a Northern California resident the Dodgers are our sworn rivals. So anyone but them. Since the Giants aren’t an option I picked the Cubs, just because.

Go Brewers!!!

You know what, I changed my vote. I don’t know how I missed the Brewers in the poll. I have family in Wisconsin, so of course I should be rooting for the Brewers.

Well, I thought it would be interesting to see how much “noninterest” there would be. And I also should have just said, “Who do you think will win” rather than “Who has the best chance.” The former is more likely to invite predictions of an underdog emerging on top.

This is exactly my position. I love to sing in a group, so long as there are enough others singing that my lousy voice won’t interfere with anyone else’s enjoyment of the activity.

I’m enthusiastic about music, and will sing (under my breath) along with favorite songs in public, or along with the radio/cellphone playlist when driving by myself. But I have have minimal range, skill, or tonal control. So, yeah, not going to do it audibly in public. I picked American Pie, All-Star, and My Way because I’ve sung along with all of them when safely in private.

Something not mentioned, and applies to serval songs on the list, is that I would dare not sing those that have been parodied by Weird Al, lest I start singing those versions. Something I’ve done to “Eye of the Tiger” switching into The Theme of Rocky 13 aka “The Rye or the Kaiser”.

I haven’t done karaoke in a long time, but if I were to do it again, I’d ask to sing the Greg Kihn Band’s “Jeopardy,” so I could intentionally sing the lyrics to Weird Al’s “I Lost on Jeopardy.”

I like to wear shorts, yes, but also sweatpants, but especially thick merino wool sweaters.

I couldn’t answer the “what usually wakes you up in the morning” poll, because it didn’t allow multiple responses, and there’s no one choice that happens often enough to count as “usually.”

On mornings when I have to go to work, I have the alarm clock set, but sometimes I “just naturally wake up” slightly before the alarm goes off, and sometimes it’s the alarm that wakes me. (On mornings when I don’t have to go to work, I get up whenever I “just naturally wake up,” but sometimes “nature is calling” is a contributing factor to when that happens.)

I have a daily alarm set on my Fitbit. The vibration on my wrist never fails to wake me from even the soundest sleep, without bothering anybody else.

I don’t really feel like that counts as an “alarm clock,” so I answered “other.”
