Did you make the wish by twitching your nose, or crossing your arms and blinking?
TV shows - absolutely None Of The Above
I might check out remakes of some of my top favorite old shows, just out of curiosity. And I’d give 'em a fair chance, even if I have low expectations, because otherwise I’m wasting my time. But there’s nothing I would “actively” want to see redone. What I love most about those shows really can’t be captured again.
Word for word, I came in to say this.
One hundred percent.
mmm
Some have already had cinematic remakes (the poll didn’t specify large or small screen), such as Bewitched (which subtly changed the premise), Get Smart, and The Munsters (I always liked how Edward Herman ended up playing Herman Munster). The Love Boat I found upon some hotel room rewatchings to be rather squicky, as much older guys were dating Julie.
I chose Kung Fu since I could see that working better in the modern era than most of the other alternatives.
Turns out that there WAS a Kung Fu reboot, in 2021, but was canceled after 3 seasons. [I very rarely watch broadcast TV anymore, other than for sports]
There was also a 1993 sequel, Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. As I recall, it was pretty bad.
I really don’t want to see a remake of a series that worked the first time around. Better to remake a show that squandered a premise with real potential.
Many of the shows on the list were very much of their time, and I can’t really imagine a modern remake. (Get Smart, I’m looking at you.) Others have already been re-booted, and not terribly successfully.
Of all the shows on the list, the one I can most imagine being re-introduced to 2025 audiences is Bewitched. It was already ahead of its time in regards to female empowerment. I think the same metaphor could very much hit home in these times.
I voted for the Munsters, because I’m enjoying Wednesday. Yeah, that’s the Addams Family. But wasn’t the Munsters really just a remake of The Addams Family? I feel like if we are talking about modern remakes with an all new cast, they are basically the same show.
They actually both premiered within days of each other, in September of 1964 (though the Addams Family cartoons, on which that series was based, had run in The New Yorker for decades prior).
Not really. The Munsters were part of the Universal Monsters nostalgia/revival sparked by the creature feature packages Universal sold real cheap to local TV stations in the early 1960s.
Yes, the Addams Family is clearly the original, even if the TV version wasn’t earlier. And honestly, the two were similar enough that i think Wednesday counts as a remake of either.
You’d never get the DoD to cooperate these days, but I could see a reboot of McHale’s Navy being reasonably successful. Service comedies are due for a comeback.
I’d really like a Land of the Lost remake without Will Ferrell.
A good hot fudge is my favorite ice cream topping. The addition of raspberries or bananas makes it even better.
As for the mistake in the string of Christmas lights, it would bother me every time I looked at it! I would make sure I changed it the next year.
If I didn’t fix it right away, it would bother me every time I looked at it, and I would intend get it changed the next year.
If i think it’s my spouse, i probably walk over, but i don’t film him. I also don’t think he’s having an affair, even if he’s talking enthusiastically with a woman. God, if he freaked out every time i talk with a male friend, or hugged a male friend, we’d have split decades ago.
Why would you not just walk over? Both of the options in the poll are those of someone already in an unhealthy relationship.
