I have wall calendars hanging up in three different places. They’re all freebies; but two of them have pictures, and I pick out ones with pictures that I like, from piles of free ones in local businesses. The third one, which goes in the packing shed, is sent out by the local school district. Those three are for glancing at and seeing the days rapidly. I also have a large folding desk calendar and a small one to take places; those get things written in them. They have no pictures. So I didn’t vote in the poll, because two choices didn’t seem to be an option.
I prefer the month at a time layout on paper. It seems to orient me better than computer versions do, and is sometimes faster to look at. I do keep to-do lists on the computer these days, because my handwritten ones have legibility problems.
I’m a pessimist - despite normally having a good New Years (some noticeable exceptions) I expect every year to be worse than the past. And in Trump 1.0 and 2.0 the pessimism was far upbeat considering the actual actions.
I have a 2014 calendar with pictures of napping kittens. I was able to re-use it as normal last year, because 2025 had the same sequence of months / days-of-the-week. This year it’s going to be a hunt-and-find to get a match; it’s currently showing May 2014 because that’s the only month with the 1st on a Thursday.
I can’t imagine how disillusioned 20-year-old me would have been to be told he would live to see Richard Nixon only be rated the eighth worst president in US History.
My This Day in History calendar rightfully notes the criminally-forgotten December 32nd, 1913 usurption of power by Grover Cleveland, and @Karen_Lingel needs not worry about her poll-making abilities.
Out of curiosity, does the calendar show Sunday as the first day in the week (i.e., the left-most day), or Monday? My wife has bought a few English calendars over the years, and they all ran Monday-Sunday, whereas American calendars usually run Sunday-Saturday.
My True Love got me a Red-Eyed Vireo, somewhat rare in winter in Vacationland, NE Florida, so voted for “calling birds”…in 4 months in Ohio they’ll be all over the place of course.
My calendar this year is Canadian, but it runs Sunday - Saturday. Actually, it’s Sundae Munchday Tacoday Whoopsday Turkeyday Fryday and Snackday. I got it because it’s a Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund calendar, and it might be the last one they do (Crusoe retired this year at 16). I usually get a dachshund calendar, but this year I had already bought a calendar from the Huntington. I love their gardens. But due to it maybe being the last Crusoe one I had to get it.
The calendar is on a kitchen wall, and I enjoy looking at it.
As for fries, I don’t think of shoestring potatoes as fries – they’re closer to potato chips for me. But I prefer fries on the thinner side. I don’t like steak fries or other thicker cuts, because they’re often on the underdone side and often a bit mealy.
Unlike most movie polls, I’ve seen almost all of the ones on this list. The only one I’m unfamiliar with is Someone Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, although it seems to me that the title is similar to that of another film.
