Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 2)

I am afraid of both death and the pain of death.

I’m not afraid of the actual dying part. But I am not ready to stop living. I have a lot of things left to do.

It doesn’t matter whether I could be objective or not; I’d tell them I can’t so as to not get picked. I want no part of that circus other than to watch the result & aftermath…with a suitable quantity of popcorn in hand bowl

I’m not scared of dying
And I don’t really care
If it’s peace you find in dying
Well, then let the time be near

As far as a painful death is concerned, for the past two decades I’ve kept medication on hand to help speed the process. Every few years I update.

I am not frightened of dying, you know. Any time will do, I don’t mind. Why should I be frightened of dying? There’s no reason for it, you’ve gotta go sometime.

I wasn’t until embarrassingly recently that I realized he was not singing, “bundle up, my pumpkin…”

mmm

This about sums up my feeling. I’m not afraid of dying. I would just rather avoid it, if I can.

“I am not afraid of death, I just don’t want to be there when it happens.”

—Woody Allen

Sounds like a great gig…

I’m far more terrified of losing my mind than I am of a painful death, and much more terrified of that than a quick death, but I am fearful (although not to an extreme) of that as well.

To the point that given either of the first two scenarios, I’d be more likely to consider some form of embracing a quick death to avoid either sort of scenario. Not to mention, I do NOT want my wife to have to put up with, or support me through the first two scenarios and the associated costs.

There’s a song for the death polls…

I like my toast medium brown, and cooled enough that the butter doesn’t
melt and soak into it.

Is this some sort of British thing? I keep my toast on top of the toaster after it’s buttered so the butter WILL melt and soak into it. Your way is nearly incomprehensible to me!

Yes, it is the British - and therefore correct - way of doing it.

Actually, i don’t know, it may just be me !!

Relevant to the dying discussion, I think: does everyone know there’s such a thing as a death doula?

I’d been to a couple of zoom group discussions held by one, through a local library; but also just saw this story today:

I’m with you. We are in the minority, at least in the US, but that’s what prompted me to post the question.

Death: not a fan.

I’m British and I hate cold toast mainly because th butter doesn’t melt. Does that mean I am going to be transported to the USA?

I know! Whenever I see an English movie/tv show with people scraping hard butter over cold toast, I always startle a bit. Nothing better than melted butter on hot toast; nothing worse than cold butter on cold toast.

To answer the Trump juror poll, honestly, I’d be raring to be on that jury. I’d be trying as hard as I could to get on the jury at the same time hundreds were trying their best to dodge it.

…Which is probably why I would not (and perhaps should not) be selected. I am pretty heavily biased.
