Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 2)

Weren’t many of those options lines from the movie throw Mama from the train?

They all were, to the best of my recollection. And yes, they’re all awful.

I quote the bolded above all the time. This is Raymond Chandler describing the Santa Ana winds – Red Wind.

Except for the one that provoked Billy Crystal to a murderous rage.

One of my favorite stories.

Private Sewerage companies do exist.
In England and Wales under Margaret Thatcher water supply and and sewage were privatised. The Country was split into a number of regions with the privatised companies each having a monopoly in one region (both water supply and Sewage), the price they charge is regulated by government. The company was formed by the sale of shares by the government.

It was part of a much large policy of privatisation with sectors such as telecomunications, gas supply, power generation and supply, and rail transport all being sold by the government into private hands.

I don’t understand @Velocity’s poll about betting on the 2020 election. The way the question is phrased, the obligation to bet is now, in the present, but the event on whose outcome we must bet is in the past. Since we already know that Biden won the election, it would be stupid not to wager as much as possible, no? Is this some sort of trick question where the bet’s arbiter is some MAGA conspiracy theorist who thinks Trump won? Or was the question supposed to be, “If you had to have bet a sum of money [before the November 2020 election] from your savings/assets that Biden would win in November 2020…”?

I assume he meant 2024.

Sorry, you’re right. I meant 2024.

I didn’t even notice the date, I just assumed the upcoming election

I didn’t bet very much. Having 45 win would be enough of a downer, without losing a bunch of money on top of that

I wouldn’t bet anything. I don’t bet. Didn’t vote, because I had no option.

Same.

My water is supplied by an independent water district, encompassing an area larger than my city and smaller than my county. My sewerage is supplied by a sanitary district, which is different from the water district. The two districts cover similar, but not identical, areas.

Both are governmental districts but not a city or county, so I picked “other” in both cases.

When I wrote that I meant any governmental agency, not exclusively cities and counties. You are allowed to select that option rather than “other”.

In the “have to place a bet” poll, I picked Drump. I figured if Biden is re-elected I still come out ahead long-term, and my bet/loss is like donating to whichever cosmic Organisation enforces Murphy’s Law. If the other guy ends up with it, at least I get a bit of extra cash.

Regarding Polls only: No discussion - #4875 by WildaBeast, I thought agave nectar was the canonical sweetener. I know some use triple sec, just surprised agave got left off the poll.

I make a great margarita with 1800 Coconut, lime juice, agave nectar, and coconut water.

@colinfred – what state am I in?

(Not at all sure I could bring myself to vote for candidate B in any case; but am entirely sure that I couldn’t in a swing state.)

It said root, not vote.

It’s who you want to win so your location doesn’t matter.

You’re right; I missed that.

Can’t root for B for any amount of money. And I’m dead broke.

I usually eat a little of this and then a little of that, and save a bite of the tastiest thing for the end. But why would i care if someone starts by eating all their French fries, it whatever? I doubt I’d even notice.
