Discussion thread for the "Polls only" thread (Part 3)

I drink coffee; but I rarely eat out and almost never in specialty coffee shops. If I do order coffee while out somewhere, I’m probably going to try to get plain black coffee (though possibly from interesting beans), and I’m probably going to have no idea what I’m supposed to call it in whatever establishment I’m in.

Oh, i need to go back and add that.

If the coffee is good, i usually have it black. If it’s not so good, i add a lot of milk. Preferably half and half or whole milk, but I’ll take cream or lower-far milk of that’s what’s available. Usually. Skim milk isn’t really worth it. I sometimes add skim milk and a little butter, which is better than just skim milk. But whole milk is better. I think i tried oat milk once, but didn’t care for it.

When I’m buying coffee at a nice coffee shop, i often treat myself to a cappuccino, with a dusting of unsweetened cocoa powder if they have it.

I get drip by preference, but have Americano (or just order an espresso) if they don’t have drip. I guess the coffee i drink at home is usually technically Americano, as i buy cometeer™ coffee concentrate and add hot water.

I’ve had coffee served to me with a little cardamom or cinnamon, but i don’t ever add either myself. I liked them, but I’m happy with plain black coffee at home, where i have spices handy.

Eh, I counted it. It was the only time I’ve ever been served breakfast in bed!

My wallpaper is always one of my dogs. Since we decided not to get another one after Max died, I sometimes get a little sad when I see his pic.

Me, too. The only exception is occasionally when I drink iced coffee I’ll put a little cream in it. But I never drink those froufrou coffee place drinks. Too much like dessert, and I’d prefer to actually eat my calories in a real dessert given the choice.

Oh, and hazelnut flavors in coffee make me want to retch.

No, they are quite different. If by “essentially the same thing” you are referring to the resulting strength, then they are often similar. But the taste is not the same.

Pepsi Raw? WTF? Sounds horrific.

I’d never heard of Dr. Nut before gathering examples for my poll on discontinued soft drinks, but it sounds nice to me:

Americano is my coffee shop beverage of choice, and they do taste different. I also make them at home sometimes now that we have an espresso machine.

It was just a version of Pepsi with natural ingredients (as opposed to artificial colouring and flavours). I dimly recall trying it once and being underwhelmed. I don’t think I ever bought it again.

I am not a big fan of coffee, but I love chocolate, so for me it is a Mocha with extra chocolate and whip cream.

The Euro version was made with all natural ingredients.

I’m sure I’d enjoy the taste. I’d have gone with a different name, though. Pepsi Au Naturel?
But what do I know? I’m no Don Draper.

I used to like it. Then one day, i noticed it tasted like plastic. And i haven’t been able to consume it since.

The only discontinued soda I wish they still made wasn’t in the poll - Jolt Cola.

ETA - TIL they still make it in Australia.

I just found Jolt Cola for sale on Amazon (U.S.), too. I suspect it’s a case of “still made, but in very limited distribution.”

Yeah, it’s a different company. Probably a different product to benefit from the reputation. I’d try it though. It got me through many a midwatch in the Navy.

In Spain, always a cafe con leche. In most of the world, usually filter or cappuccino. Where I can get it, Turkish.

Coffee - my “others” include cinnamon powder, or chile powder, sometimes mixed with drinking chocolate or cocoa powder, for a “Mexican style mocha” or sometimes a pinch of salt to enhance flavors.

Other additions include (at home tbc) always adding a scoop or two of a soluble fiber powder - which I try to sneak into as many foods as I can!

About the only time I buy coffee from a shop, it’s while I’m travelling by car or going through a lot of airports. Due to the costs, I’m almost always buying the house drip coffee because it hurts to pay $7 for a more complicated drink at places like Starbuck, but I tend to add extra sugar (rather than my normal saccharin) to the half-and-half (or cream) default. I want that false (?) sense of energy to combat the dreary moments of sitting in airports or looooong drives.

I skipped the first coffee question because as noted I use three methods, and the poll only allowed for two.

Yeah, that was a bit rough, by going with “daily” it’s a toss up between French Press (weekend), K-cup (not on the list) reusables when I’m not drinking tea, and the cold brew pot every other week for evening decaf (more frequently though during warm months).

It was the default and I wasn’t thinking of more than just the usual morning coffee.

I’m glad I included Other simply because I couldn’t think of the proper name for my Turkish coffee pot. The word I was looking for is cezve
