"Disgusting" foods you love that the majority can't seem to stand.

tasty, creamy male fish genitalia

I like McDonalds, Burger King, and Whataburger, things which, by the sounds of some folks, are the worst things in culinary crime.

Anchovies
Black licorice

Haggis is outstanding ( and this from an erstwhile English dude)
Offal doesn’t hold any taboo for me although I thought tripe was insipid and boring. Hearts, Liver, intestine ( as long as all the gritty bits are washed out) Kidneys ( I love from any mammal) is also top notch.

Placenta I would like to try but animal first not human ( although I hear “placenta parties” are in vogue with some otherwise veggie groups)

Balut I cant eat ( Bolied egg containing a duck embryo) It actually sounds delicious but smells disgusting and the resultant little black boiled bird is not appetizing.

Snails okay, Frogs legs I bought canned and could only really taste the cottonseed oil in which they were canned… not too pleasant.

Dried then fried salted fish smells like grilled babies’ pampers when you cook them but taste delicious! Years ago in UK indian restuaratnts it was called Bombay duck!

Insects I dont really have an inclination to eat, although I was at a table while a friend of mine was trying a tarantula and when he broke open a a leg the meat was white and very crab like. so maybe I could give that a go.

I have eaten dog… and even though it was a joke that was played on me. I knew it was dog immediately. ( I ended up giving it to the cats that were running around the outside eating area … bit ironic huh?)

Horse meat I ate a few times in Italy and it was kinda meh… nice colour but too sweet and it was always served shredded so had no real texture on which to comment.

Durien as fruit I cannot abide! It smells like something dragged out of the sewers and the texture is just slime! ( Yes I tried it!)

hmmm… getting hungry now!

Black licorice

No, you’re not. :stuck_out_tongue:

Several people mentioned frog legs. Who hates frog legs? I think it’s funny, too, when people get all screamy about escargot. Basically the same thing as a scallop or shrimp or something, right?

I’m there on the buttermilk, too — although when my grandmother drank it when I was a child, it thoroughly grossed me out. Children’s taste buds must not tolerate it!

I love black licorice, but can’t stand red licorice.

I actually don’t like Budweiser by itself at all. I’m a craft beer snob. I just like the Cheladas. You can’t taste the beer, just the Clamato. Mmmm Clamato.

Being from Louisiana, I’ve had frog legs. You can find them at some buffets down there with the shrimp and the chicken wings. I’ve only had them battered and deep fried, wchich makes them taste (as cliche as it sounds) pretty much like fried chicken.

Beat everyone to it, except that I am invisible, apparently.

All depends on preparation. The Mexicans (menudo) and Italians (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/mario-batali/roman-style-tripe-trippa-alla-romana-recipe/index.html?rsrc=search) do some very appetizing and savory things with it.

I like eggnog. But I find that eggnog is one of those things that a lot of people do enjoy when it’s made properly. The problem is that most people only know it from that gummy stuff sold in cartons at the grocery.

The classic eggnog (Google George Washington eggnog) . . . is awesomely boozy.

Frog legs are are good, but they taste different from chicken. They have sort of a pondy, creeky note to them. Alligator’s good too. I guess white meat chicken’s a fairly close approximation. Rabbit, on the other hand, just tastes adorable. Goat’s not baaaaaaaaaaad, either.

For some reason, people don’t like it when I point out that the lobster or crab they’re eating is essentially the same idea as eating a giant insect. Lobster fishing is a nasty business from what I’ve read; an ultra-refined food it is not.

Frogs legs and alligator tastes close enough to chicken that I wonder why I’m paying double for chicken. They were interesting to try to say I had, but they’re not flavorful enough for me to go out of my way.

I don’t like the pond scum under taste to frog legs, but alligator and snake is pretty tasty. I do agree the price is a bit much for something so chicken-y tasting. It is nice to know that it would be palatable if you are stuck out in a swamp somewhere and need to make dinner.

Gator actually makes an excellent addition to bouillabase or paella. Not so fond of gator deep fried nuggets, I seem to have issues with oily fried foods.

I have eaten alligator and conch several times, conch sandwiches not the salads. It is very good but hard to find,. Sloppy Joes in key west used to have it on the menu.
The Iguana Cafe had alligator.

I love imitation crab. The kind you get at the big chain supermarket is terrible, but if you go to the Asian grocery store, they’ve got the good stuff. You’re looking for packages with the least amount of English printed on it.

BRAINS!!! (Actually I’m a vegetarian, but I just could not resist that double meaning zombie joke).
