Disgusting the demons

Thanks to Whynot for the reference.

Sorry, Musicat, I meant that I successfully ran a scientific test.
The subject, who believed he could ‘remote view’ at first, changed his mind after a year’s unsuccessful trying.

Maybe I was possessed when I typed my last post …

.

No, I really dont think I am.

I think I’m perfectly justified in being a little upset that my posts make you feel some of the emotions and/or behaviors listed above. If you were joking, then you have my complete apology, but I interpretted your posts as awfully snarky and mean-spirited. You also did not clarify whether it was my threads in this post that make you feel this way, or all of my posts everywhere on the board, although I am guessing the former.

I see I’m treading on thin ice here, so I guess I will explain where I’m coming from. I do not think the OP is serious; however, if it IS serious, I think it should be handled fairly and maturely. As a Catholic, I believe in demons of some form or another, and I only wanted to wish him or her to take caution. I am loathe to witness, but I think my background has at the very least an indirect relevance with the situation.

Do I believe the OP is serious? No. Do I believe he actually knows a victim of demon possession? No. So, why am I posting this? I guess I would just rather be safe than sorry. I’ve known people who were negatively affected by their journey into the occult, and I never want to see it happen to anyone again.

Also, just because somebody has an opinion that is irrational or even a little bit nutso, is no reason to villify that person and his or her posts.

Indeed, there was a factual question in the OP. I think it has been answered, but, if it hasn’t, let’s try to move past this little mini-drama I’ve created and get back to the real issue at hand, not pixies, potions, and possession.

Priceguy, your comment was unwarranted. I’d appreciate if you not repeat this in GQ.

Thanks.

I was, in fact, joking, but since xash felt my comment was unwarranted, I apologize.

In that case, I too am sorry that I misinterpreted your joke. Free githrife for everyone!

You may have neglected to read the appropriate passages right-to-left, bottom-to-top. It’s not an uncommon error.

Whyever not? I did, and I’m juuuuuust fine :::twitch:::

Not entirely joking actually - I followed your link and saw the word “hyoscyamine” and thought “that sounds familiar”. Sure 'nuff, years back I had the stuff for a nasty case of intestinal distress: http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/hyoscy_cp.htm.

I can’t say it did a darned thing to exorcise my particular demon (which did in fact cause me to writhe, and growl, and doubtless speak in tongues   ). I had to add tincture of Cipro to the potion to get any relief. Perhaps it needed more wormwood and githrife to work

The subject was unable to perform as he expected, as we both observed.

It’s hard to call a test successful if the outcome did not produce the expected result, nor confirm that such a result is impossible.

Reminds me of “The operation was successful, but the patient died.”

Saying “As a atheist with a high IQ who has run a successful test right here on the Dope for ‘remote viewing’…” sounds to me like you confirmed that remote viewing is possible, and that’s why I questioned it.

I will not continue with this, as it is obviously a hijack, but I couldn’t resist.

If many people claim they have a paranormal power, I fail to see which single test would confirm this power didn’t exist.
After my test, the subject agreed he didn’t have the power - which was as much success as possible.

I agree my original phrasing was ambigious - I was more focused on the fact that testing for the paranormal is claimed to be evidence of possession.

Based on the description of demonic possession given in an earlier post, it seems that several members of my extended family are possessed. I am probably possessed as well. Does the church offer quantity discounts for a family exorcism?

Really? I thought that was the basis for the Straight Dope column and the entire board.

Corncockle? Dingdingding, ladies and gentlemen, we have a hot new euphemism. (Wild applause, rending of bedsheets, prewarming of personal lubricants)
