I bought Disney Infinity for my son’s birthday and he was all excited to play it, but whenever we put the disc in, it says, “Unable to read the disc.” All other game discs work fine. The Wii firmware is up to date. One review I read on the Disney site mentioned that owners of original Wiis were having problems reading some discs, but I couldn’t find any more information. Anyone else had a problem like this?
We have an older Wii, and had the same problem with a newer game. Apparently some of the older Wii’s can’t or don’t read double layer discs, which is what I assume Disney Infinity is. That may be the reason, and I hope it’s a good starting point for your research.
All the info I found implied that the laser might be dirty, which apparently would prevent it from reading some double-layer discs while it still works for other discs. Thankfully, my Wii is still under warranty, so I’m sending it back to Nintendo for them to clean. Hopefully that takes care of it.
We’ve had to send in our Wii for repair for the same problem. After owning our Wii for several years one or two of the dual-layered disks failed to work (Metroid: Other M in our case). Nintendo’s service wasn’t the fastest but they did a good job. The hardest part is waiting for it to return. A friend was in the processing of moving out of the country so he let us borrow his Wii and games until he was ready to go.
See, my first instinct would be to return the game. Only after trying another copy would I start looking into the Wii itself.
