DIY Carpet Repair

Hi,

I rent and my dog just ripped out a small section of carpet in the middle of my living room. Honestly, I didn’t expect this to happen at all. I didn’ t even know it was possible for a 7 lbs chihuahua to chew a hole the size of a soda can all the way to the floor. I want to fix this without involving my landlord. Now, were this my house I’d

a) Find a scrap of matching carpet lying around somewhere, cut out a circle, cut out the damage, put some carpet tape in there and transplant a voila!

b) If I didn’t have a scrap of carpet left over from installation I’d find some unused section, like in the closet, and transplant from there.

Now, since I rent, I can’t do b) since it would probably leave a major hit against my deposit and I don’t have any matching carpet to do a). So all that’s left is c) Find some matching carpet somewhere else. But where? Can I take a picture of the carpet and bring it somewhere to buy a small scrap? Is that possible? What do I do?

Regards,

Groman

Is there a flap of carpet you can cut away from the damaged area? If so, take it with you to a discount carpet outlet. If not, I don’t see why a picture wouldn’t help. The problem would be matching the new piece to the old carpet without it being very obvious.

How big is the carpet in question? You may just want to tell the landlord what happened and have it replaced yourself, especially if the cost is less than your deposit.

It’s wall to wall carpeting in a 1000sqft+ apartment. Just replacing a section might work but it’d still be 400-500sqft+. I found a place called “Remnant World” which is my next stop, I’ll try to cut a chunk off as a sample, it can’t make it worse :-/
