It’s been lionized (along with peanuts) by the old baseball ditty as a staple of ballpark fare but when is the last time anyone here witnessed the stuff for sale at a major league venue?
I am not absolutely certain, but I think they had it for sale at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati this past summer when we went to watch the Reds play.
Different sport but it is available at Islanders hockey games.
I’m sure I’ve seen it, though I can’t say for sure where, since I don’t get it. But maybe Washington, maybe Atlanta.
When I was little I watched Diamondbacks games at Bank One (now Chase) and I ate Cracker Jacks. This must have been about ten years ago.
On sale at both Petco Park and Dodger Stadium. Usually on the poles the guys carry around with peanuts and other goodies hanging from them. Saw Cracker Jack at both parks last season, as a matter of fact.
I got Cracker Jack at Fenway a couple of years ago.
National Park in DC served em last season.
Definitely in Cleveland. Peanuts too!
Citifield last season
In 2009, Boston’s Fenway Park sold roughly 1,000 bags of Cracker Jack per game.
How the song writers knew this is a mystery, as neither had been to a baseball game at the time the song was written:
This is probably just conjecture and lore. I doubt if anyone has looked into this.
Not only on sale at Yankee Stadium but a few years back when I still had a ticket plan I was shocked to find they had stopped selling Cracker Jacks and were selling Fiddle Faddle.
Yankee fans being what we were we booed the Fiddle Faddle vendors and starting chanting for Cracker Jacks. I know the Stadium and Yankees got a lot of calls and Emails on it and the NY Daily News wrote scathing articles about it. Within 2-3 weeks Fiddle Faddle was gone, happy to wave the contract that was generating hatred and protests and Cracker Jacks were back.
I always assumed that when Cracker Jack was sold at ballparks, it was because of the song. The brand predates the song by a few years, but I’m not aware of any evidence that it was in ballparks before then.
Definitely on sale at AT&T, home of the World Series Champs! But I never buy the park’s crackerjack because they’re outrageously priced. If I want to eat them I’d buy a big bag from outside the park.
Also on sale at Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis cardinals.
Both Chicago parks do, the major league park on the south side, and the dump up north.
My wife is pretty single minded about making sure wherever she goes to a ball game, that they sell it. She’s been known to harass the poor vendors if they don’t carry it, like it’s their fault!
Yeah, it’s not like they couldn’t have talked to someone who actually had been to a game.
