Do people here mind...

me putting up my pointless ebay whorage? [link broken by moderator]
I know some forums can get really arsey about it, seeing it as spamming or needless attention seeking.

It’s not exactly the same as ticket touting tho, don’t u think?

And why post in a general forum if u dont like attention seeking?

Anyway… no1 here has been arsey to me about selling my soul or my dehydrated water but this is one of my favourite forums, so i thought it best just to check…

thankyou

So I am to shell out two dollars and a half minimum for a box containing something worth less than that price, plus the 3-4 dollars in shipping? Hmm, nah.

Neat idea though.

eh, got my conversions wrong. 1 GBP= ~1.90 US so shipping would be a bit over 5 US dollars.

From the Forum Rules (bolding mine): “Do not post spam, including but not limited to advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, solicitations, or other messages primarily intended to promote a cause, venture, organization, event (except Straight Dope-related events), website, or other entity or activity, whether or not money is involved.”

In other words, no. The SDMB does not want to serve as a conduit to help you sell stuff. I’m sure a mod or admin will be in here soon to give the official word.

I suppose a mod/admin could always assess a thread when it comes to their attention.

I wouldn’t say mine is a horrific offence… tho i will accept critism

But does it bother any of you?

Yeah, it bugs me. A lot! Go shill your crap somewhere else! :wally

Yes, it bothers me that once you’ve been informed of an SDMB policy, you want to continue to violate it. On top of that, you’re appealing to members to defend (or at least, not be bothered by) your violation of it so you can try to make money off us.

what? when did i do all that!?

U only think that coz u don’t know me. If it bothers u that much, i WILL stop!!!

we’re discussing the issue… i want to know because i paid to use this forum and LIKE using it.

Doesn’t bother me a bit. Violate the rules of the board (for example, by advertising) and you’ll be banned soon. Happens every week. I hardly even notice it any more.

I also paid to use this forum, and crap like that bothers the hell out of me. In fact, I paid for a well-moderated forum where solicitations like that are deleted, and the offender warned. $15 doesn’t give you free-reign around here - it gives you access to a forum where there are clear rules and guidelines.

I’m here for the conversation. If I wanted to buy and sell stuff on eBay, I’d go to eBay. :smack:

Ok, I appologise.

Im not gonna argue my side coz im in the wrong.

Advertising is against the rules and that’s basically what i have done.

thankyou for your views… sorry if i seemed arsey

What Marley said.

Please keep your ads to yourself.

i never claimed that it did. i said that i wanted to know if it was a problem. I paid coz i like talking in here, not because i wanted rulership of the forum

Arse! This post was supposed to be in the Mundane Pointless Stuff I Must Share (MPSIMS) forum!!!

Sorry!!! I understand why u were all so more pissed off than i expected.

yeah… this isn’t an attention seeking forum :smack:

No, you did have it in the right forum. You were seeking opinions, thus you were correctly in IMHO.

Neoof - a couple of points you might want to consider:

  1. shill is against the rules, but now you know

  2. We really don’t like chat-room speak around here. It’s “you,” not “u.”

  3. You apologised and learned from your mistake, which is more than a lot of posters do. Keep that attitude in mind, and you’ll fit in nicely.

Neoof you may also like to contact a mod and ask for this thread to be closed. It was a boo-boo.

To any Mod would there be a problem in starting a thread about ideas of things to sell on Ebay. Things of no or little munetary value which none the less might make a proffit?

Still doesn’t matter, regardless of forum - the rules apply across all of them. But I wouldn’t worry - you’ve apologized, and the worst that could happen is having the thread locked.

And thanks for adding “arsey” to my vocabulary!
