Am I the only one who thinks colored contact lenses are never a good idea? I’ve encountered a couple of people this week who have had them in and they are incredibly distracting, and not in a good way. Maybe there are some expensive brands that look more natural but all of the ones I’ve seen in my life have been obvious and make it hard to focus on the person instead of the obvious fake contacts. The worst are when black people wear blue contacts. They look insane. Hell, all people look insane with color contacts.
Have you ever seen any that look good or natural? Do you think that are just for attention getting purposes?
I had a friend who used to wear some that made her hazel eyes look more green. I think they looked natural.
I think you just notice the ones that are “noticeable”. Like you don’t notice if someone with light brown hair has dyed their hair a darker shade of brown. You notice the person whose dark hair has been dyed blonde.
Do you know for sure that the people you’re talking to are wearing coloured contacts? If you do, then that means you know what they look like without them - that’s probably what makes them look fake.
I’ve been accused loads of times (easily a hundred) of wearing coloured contact lenses, especially when people discover that I do wear contact lenses, even though they’re not coloured. It’s slightly frustrating just how certain they are that not only am I very vain but an outright liar. And it’s not as if my eyes are all remarkable anyway - very bright very light blue, noticeable but really not that unusual; mixed-race people with natural light eyes must get it even more. And such people do exist.
I had to buy dailies for scuba diving so on a whim I bought some coloured ones. I’ve got bright blue eyes and these made them ever so slightly more blue. When I wore them my girlfriend said romantically “ah, it’s amazing, your eyes change with the seasons”. I was sad to correct her.
Not so: I’ve got an Indian friend with irises that are practically black, and she wears ones specifically designed for dark eyes that make hers look green. It’s attractive but artificial looking.
Or you could get anime lenses that increase the size of your iris, designed for dark-eyed east Asians.
My mom wore colored contacts for years. They made her now-grey eyes look more blue. Unless you were practically in her face you didn’t notice they were colored.
There are people of mixed ancestry with dark skin/hair and blue eyes (see: little kids on youtube). While you may find that combination fake-looking, it doesn’t necessarily indicate that the person is wearing contacts.
I like the way colored contacts look. The only ones that are overtly distracting are the ones with designs or words on them.
I get that too (and I don’t wear contacts of any kind). I never thought my eye colour was all that special, until people started coming up to me insisting that I was wearing coloured contacts.
I’ve been asked multiple times too, and I don’t wear contacts either. Normally my eyes are a grayish blue-green, but when they’re really dry they become a vivid aquamarine that prompts people to ask if I’m wearing contacts.
