Do queen-sized bed conversions look okay?

I’ve got a full-size bed at the moment. Beautiful (and sometimes ahem useful for certain things) wrought-iron head and footboards that I’m kind of loath to abandon despite wanting to move up to a queen-size bed. Have hunted for similar styles in queen size, but have been dissatisfied with what is readily available. Then I discovered that conversion rails exist that allow queen-size mattresses to be used with full-size head and footboards, possibly solving my dilemma.

However, I can’t seem to actually find pictures of these rails in use, just pictures of the bare frame. Do these things make for an awkward-looking bed, with bedding jutting out on each side, or do these tend to look okay?

We have a full headboard with a queen mattress. It isn’t noticeable at all.

But you should check that the outermost uprights on your bed are a full size span. Some metal beds have surprisingly short widths and doing this would just increase the effect.

How much do these cost?

If cheap enough, buy a set and see for yourself/selves.

There are conversion rails with a single center support rails for $100-$125 (which can be bought locally), and a couple of vendors have rails with three center support rails for $150 (online-only it seems, so there’s additional S/H to consider). For whatever reason, these converter rails don’t have rails at the top and bottom, so the single center-support system seems awfully flimsy, with less support for the box spring than even my current full-size frame. So, if this is a solution I explore, I’m leaning to the more expensive three-support rails. $150+S/H is a bit much for an experiment.

At that, though, I may take the plunge anyway. Taking a cue from ftg, I measured the width of my headboard, and it’s a bit under 58" across, so the mattress would extend out on each side by a mere inch + a tad (and add extra bulk when I toss on some fluffy bedding). Certainly more acceptable than the converters I have seen for queen-to-king, where the increase in width would be far more dramatic.

Thanks!
