Huh. The odd thing I was talking (trying to talk?) about people who persist in enabling MAGA-ers.
Sorry, I mis-read.
Well, even still - in the same way some people cannot ever admit wrong, some other people cannot ever stop trying to get the former to admit wrong. Everyone has an innate deep-down inability to see “the truth” not being adhered to.
The other day, I saw a truck with “TRUMP 2024 - F*CK YOUR FEELINGS” in big letters. How should I establish a dialogue with that person?
If you’re someone who listens to reason and can change your mind when shown that you’re wrong, you may be projecting when you think everyone is like that.
Your asterisk or theirs?
Mine.
“You got a favorite work by Kierkegaard?”
It’s both sad and amusing that the “Fuck your feelings” crowd are the same people who will throw a complete shit-fit over a kneeling football player or the color of a Starbucks cup.
Well, they don’t have feelings. They have insights that are correct.
Those reactions aren’t motivated by feelings. They’re prompted by clear, existential threats to people’s way of life. /s
They’re not saying “fuck your feelings”; they’re saying “fuck your feelings.”
Yes, I do agree that is is useful to give up on people. But to me its not giving up, its more about finally getting what someone is really about. All of us initially put on a bit of a false front, but after a while a pattern emerges, and at some point it becomes very clear that someone is toxic. Buddha, who was just a guy, so this is not religious or anything, is alleged to have said that if you can’t find suitable friends it is better to walk the path alone. I agree w/ that. The company we keep can bring us down, or bring us up.
But, I won’t do that unless it’s absolutely true. Reading people is very complicated. I’m more than sure that many times I have said something that was totally stupid because sometimes I am stupid. It really comes down to whether the pendulum swings so much and so frequently that you realize there is no other real recourse.
Or, the ones who say 'Facts don’t care about your feelings" are the most pissed off when facts do clash with their feelings.
Said another way their Faux Facts™ totally Trump your puny feelings. Screw 'em says I. And the moron they rode in on.
If they clash with their feelings of what is right and true, then those cannot be real facts.
