This question occured to me after watching a Discovery Health special on the issue. A noted doctor became a woman. He left his wife (or she left him I’m not sure) at least in part because he was going to be establishing a new identity and having new sexual partners. What struck me was that after the change he ended up with a woman. One might imagine that he would end up with a man after all that work. Have there been any studies on this issue? Also would a man having sex with a transexual be considered homosexual by the average person?
Someone will come along to correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure that therapists generally don’t give the go-ahead on reassignment if sexuality (rather than gender) is the major concern. Post-op sexuality should be the same as pre-op, though I suppose it could end up being that the change makes someone more comfortable pursuing relationships with people of this or that gender.
The one MtF I’ve known considered herself bisexual but in practice had only ever been with women, before and after she started the process. It wasn’t a factor in her decision to have the surgery.
I wouldn’t consider a man having sex with her homosexual, but I can’t speak for the average person.
Please read “sexual orientation” for “sexuality” above.
See this site for some information on this. It has some nudity on it, but it is not a porn site, it is a very well-done informational site.
