Do us a Flavor 2015

So anyone else tried the new Lays flavors? Any thoughts?

So far, I have tried the Gyro & the Ruben. The Gyro are pretty good, I love gyros, & they do not disappoint… That being said, the Ruben chips blow them out of the water, and if they do not win, I will be very sad.

I liked the gyro FLAVOR. The fact that they’re kettle chips drops them in points for me. I hate kettle chips.

I like the sausage & biscuit (it was the first one I looked at and thought “Ooh! I’ll bet those are good!”), but they don’t blow me away. I had them this weekend and then the next day actually had REAL sausage gravy & biscuits for breakfast and the difference from the real thing stood out.

I’ve tried the truffle fries, but they’re not anything in particular. They’re just…flavored with something. Of course, I’ve never had real truffle fries, so I don’t have any comparison.

Haven’t tried the reuben yet…I’m getting a sniff of sauerkraut component (which makes sense) but I’m hesitant to try. Maybe later tonight.

I tried all four varieties. Hard for me to have a verdict. The gyros ones were surprisingly lamby and gyros-like. I kind of marveled at the food technology required to get that lamb gaminess just right. And I love kettle chips, so there’s that. The reuben one vaguely tasted of caraway rye and that’s about it for me. Hint of sauerkraut, too, I guess. My least favorite of the four. Biscuits and gravy was kind of like a sage-y sour cream and onion or something. Not bad, definitely put me in the mind of biscuits and gravy, but fairly subtle. Truffle fries was, well, what you’d expect, and the most ordinary of the four. As a flavor, that’s the one that makes the most sense. I’m not sure who I’d vote for. There’s no clear winner for me. The gyros one is the most interesting, but I’m not sure if I like the most. In terms of which flavors I would actually sit down with and eat a pack of, not just for novelty’s sake, it’d be the biscuits and gravy and the truffle ones. But just a few, the gyros one. After thinking this one out in this post, I guess I’ll give gyros my vote.

I tried the Ruben and the Gyro flavors today, going to try the Biscuit & Gravy tomorrow. I’m a vegetarian, so the Truffle flavor is off limits. (Duck fat! Who woulda thunk it?) Found the Gyro flavor quite good, but the Ruben a bit strange. Just not the right flavor for a chip. Indeed, notes of rye bread and sauerkraut.

I’ve only tried Reuben so far, and it’s definitely quite ‘authentic’ but that doesn’t mean I enjoyed it as a chip  I had a few chips and brought the rest to work.

I bought all four but have only tried the biscuits and gravy one so far. I’d say it’s pretty dang close and it’s pretty good.

Haven’t tried any yet but the consensus among my coworkers is thumbs up for the biscuits and gravy.

If the truffle ones are anything like the truffle fries served at our upscale neighborhood restaurant I’ll be in potato chip nirvana

*Reuben *flavored chips? Gyro? Holy cats, what next; liver and onions or maybe tuna casserole? :stuck_out_tongue:

Totally not trying to thread shit, I’m just gobsmacked that these are actual flavors. It’s like something out of a fake commercial on SNL.

I’m glad it give youse guys joy though, so carry on . . .

Mmmm, gyro. Any one tried them with a Tzatziki dip? I usually don’t like flavored chips but I could eat that one.

This is just a limited-time only type of deal, not a permanent flavor. They’ve been doing this for a couple years. Past flavors include chicken & waffles, bacon mac and cheese, cappuccino (yes, you read that correctly), wasabi ginger, etc.
