The problem with looking for a former MAGA here is that Dopers are fighting ignorance (it’s taking longer than we thought), whereas ignorance is MAGA’s stock in trade. It seems rare enough for a MAGAt to open their eyes and realize they’ve been duped, but then to come to the SD? I think that may be asking too much of them!
Most have been banned by now anyway.
We didn’t ban people for being MAGA, just for trolling and insulting, if they happen to be MAGA, that was on them.
Not many were though. Some older style right wingers who seemed to feel their back was to the wall.
For a lot of them who had been here for years, it seemed that they succumbed to the cult. They started to believe that like Dear Leader they could say anything they wanted to without repercussions. It was very interesting to watch it play out in real time here as Trump supporters all over the country started acting out.
A day or 2 after the election I had a coworker start calling our black coworkers slurs, because free speech was legal again, or whatever he was going on about. He got fired the next day. Watching that in real time was WILD to say the least. A similar coworker would regularly throw out the ‘roman salute’ after Elon’s little thing at the inaguration. He also got fired but before anyone asks, everyone (like 500+) got fired shortly after the tariffs were announced so there’s that.
ISTR that poster Airman Doors (I’m probably misremembering his handle) was conservative but was seriously questioning whether he wanted to remain so in light of the insanity that overtook his party. But I don’t think he was ever MAGA. I haven’t seen him post here in a long time.
He was a good dude, is a good dude. I hope… He gave me the highest compliment publicly here on the dope that I have received. And he always seemed very reasonable so I very much doubt he was ever MAGA.
Agreed, he never struck me as MAGA. If he was he hid it really well.

Just as an aside: He’s not particularly prolific these days, but he’s still around as of two days ago.
I am the similar but I did not fully go Democratic. I didn’t get pushed left but it was clear that Republicans as a whole were working against democracy. Not only the 1/6 insurrection but the movement of state legislatures to impeach Democrats who were representing their district.
There are a few elections I will still vote Republican, usually I have met and chatted with the candidate. And in our election for Governor next year, if there is a reasonable Republican running against Michael Bennett I will be voting for them.
I’m a Democrat but even I’ll occasionally vote Republican for local offices. Politics makes strange bedfellows, and at present my local city council in Corpus Christi is being dragged along by an alliance of MAGAs and leftists / environmentalists fighting against centrist Democrats / chamber of commerce Republicans. I’m supporting the council person from my district, who is MAGA, in the present conflict. I voted for him in the general election against an opponent who was a chamber of commerce / George Bush style Republican.
Most of the Republicans I know around here at work are very much of the “respect the office if not the man” mindset.. There’s a lot of tense silences about current events. Frankly, it’s weird.
