Thanks and back to you {{{nellie}}} and your poor computer too {{{lonely in Texas}}}. At least your ‘puter gets to be close to Thel and my dear oldest son.
We usually do a thorough scrubdown twice a year that includes using a carpet cleaner and all manner of other chores. We spent part of lockdown cleaning out/organizing the basement, which was a huge relief for me. I really hate clutter.
This is a busy week. This morning I got the tires changed out on the RV, oil changed, etc. Later this week is lab work, and dentist and doctor appointments. After that, I’ll schedule my annual MRA for the aneurysms, which hasn’t been done for two years now. We’ve started planning for a road trip to the extreme southeast corner of Oregon around the end of the month, weather permitting. It’s a very sparsely populated area with some great scenery. Think I’ll take the telescope.
End of next month, we’ll be getting the basement floor done. They’re going to float out one area when the concrete is uneven, then they’ll install 24X24 padded carpet tiles and finish up with a new cove molding. In the interim, I need to patch a few sections of damaged sheetrock, remove the old cove molding, and slap some new paint on the walls. I’ll probably use the leftovers from the paint in the rest of the house, since I have it. Then slightly better than half of the basement will be a decent playroom/whatever space.
What the heck - it’s not like I had anything else to do…
Just got an Amazon delivery. I was expecting some Just for Men beard dye. Yes, I know, I should welcome getting older blah, blah, blah, but I’m gonna experiment with this crap. I don’t like my beard being mostly white. It used to be a mix of red and brown, but now it’s white. The hair on top, what little I have left, is still brown. BTW, that whole thing about getting your hairline from your mother’s father is BS. My grandfather had a full head of dark hair when he passed at 75, I’ve got a bunch of rabbits walking backwards, i.e. a receding hare line.
I received a hat.
There are still a few dark hairs in my beard and moustache, but the rest of my hair is still dark except for those Reed Richards white spots at the temples. Can’t remember if my dad had any grey hair when he died, but he was only 58.
Well, I for one am getting ads for cleaning services all over this thread!
It’s like “they” know …
Wow, nuts nailed my “technique” pretty well. One of these days, I’d love to not be so nomadic (and tend to an actual garden from year to year!) but in the meantime, I guess I move on from the grit & cobwebs every coupla years.
… like, a nice fedora? Or a baseball cap? Does it at least fit?
Also, I lol’d at your punchline, so thanks for that.
Oh, yeah! I forgot to add that - in the spirit of this thread - I contacted the local pair of nice ladies that came to clean for me around NYE and they will be returning at the end of this week for another round.
So my method is, apparently, a combo of “keep up with the bare minimum” and “pay someone else to do it.”
Yanno, I can actually hear former roommates of mine sniggering from across the cosmos…
magic, when I used to bake bread, I would just butter my hands (keeps 'em soft too) to handle dough. Check with baker for pro advice.
I don’t really do any formal spring cleaning. I tend to wash windows that I can reach sometime in April or May, take the quilt off the bed to the cleaners and do the baseboards. Last spring, I was working reduced hours, so I did do more formal cleaning. I feel the same way about dusting as boofae. If it gets bad, I get out the duster, but otherwise, meh.
Irked, came home, took Nelson out, where he got a good romp in with the shih tzu in the next building and et. Before I play in the studio tonight, I need to set up an appointment to get the second jab late this week.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Some hints:
- Don’t leave it in as long as it says. It will get really dark on your face, then when you rinse it will look like it didn’t take. Give it overnight.
B. It looks really fake the first few days, but after that it looks very natural until it all grows out.
Tres. Make sure that the towels you use to dry off after rinsing aren’t good towels, because you didn’t rinse enough. No, you didn’t.
It was the most boring hat you can possibly think of. A blue ball cap style with absolutely no markings, in an in between blue, too light for Red Sox or Yankees, too dark for Royals or Dodgers. Just sort of the essence of a ball cap, the Platonic idea of a ball cap, the “ur” cap, if you will. It may become my mow the lawn hat.
I have no idea how that was sent to me, I do indeed wear a hat every day, but they are all some variation of a Red Sox hat. I know I’ve never looked at that particular hat on Amazon.
silenus Appreciate the tips. Also the numeration.
That’s actually kinda hilarious. I like your descriptions!
… will the seller replace? (Perhaps with the actual dye you wanted, and not neon pink or something, since they have “ideas” about what you want.)
Got ambitious enough to go to The Gettin’ Sto’ for some much-needed supplies, including fresh onions and lil’ bitty N.O.T.s because I wanted them for a dinner notion.
Of course, having done the shopping, I’m now taaahhhred (with pose of woe) and timed it just right so I got home right as most of the good drive-thru options closed.
So, 1.) dinner notion is postponed for tomorrow (hey, I have all ingredients now!) and 2.) a lil’ personal size pizza from Domino’s is starting to look increasingly appealing.
Evening all. Soccer has been practiced, the girls are doing well, they scrimmaged a bunch of same-aged boys and tied 1-1. We’ll play a makeup game on Thursday and hopefully the improvements will continue. Mickey D’s took care of the evening meal, so I’ll be eating from my own supplies for the balance of the week.
Don’t have enough hair on the top of my head to matter much, and my beard (pre-plague) was white, I’ll probably start growing it back once the 2-weeks post-shot has been completed.
FCM, hope FCD follows instructions until they can do something about his knees. And sounds like a good plan for the basement.
VanGo, nothing wrong with a good mowing hat–you can sweat on it and not worry about it at all.
nellie, hope the 'puter repairs go as planned.
lucky, I never want to have a stove that needs that much cleaning.
gotti, glad you’re doing better, even if a lot of famalies still aren’t.
OK, on to internettin’ and readin’. All y’all take care.
If you were closer, I’d aim you at PWAISDN. It is so easy to go too far with box color. The pro stuff he uses has no need to overshoot and let it fade over a couple days, but if things go badly, wash with plain old blue Dawn dish soap to get closer to normal.
I may be biased, but he’s a master colorist and color correction expert.
Plus extra garlic crack sauce!
… means breakfast is sorted (love that Britishism!) and that I got a good, deep, heavy meal right before bedtime.
That ^^ may be a no-no for some, but it’s the healthiest thing for me.
I live with a cosmetologist too and she gives the same Dawn dish soap advice. The funny thing is that she needs to resort to Dawn more often than I do. I guess life at Chez Boo is more boring for her so she sends for fun hair coloring from Amazon. Could be worse~she could be a tattoo artist. In all fairness she does make Etsy jewelry but does her esteemed roomie have a single piece? Nooooo…
Out of curiosity, where is he located? I think my hairdresser has lost her salon.
The pine trees do a pollen explosion around May-ish. And then everything gets a layer of yellow. EVERYTHING.
So then we clean. It’s still spring, and it’s cleaning.
I also scrub the front patio and/or use a pressure washer on it, approximately 2 per year. It’s getting that time again. And we clean the windows and outside blinds once a year or every 2-3 years. Or something like that.
And then there’s the quarterly cleaning, when the mattress cover gets thrown in the wash, the mattress gets flipped or rotated, and the we wash the laundry basket inserts, which are fabric. And we normally wash the bathrobes at the same times.
Otherwise, as needed. No idea when the oven got scrubbed last, but it was sometime in the past year. I think.
{{{Cupcakes}}} Hope your healing is uneventful.
Read lots, and probably forgot most. Hugs for everybody needs them.
Have a meeting in 15 minutes, so need to finish breakfast and coffee.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to..sort? Heave? Film at 11!
Dust.
Have you had your COVID shots? Alexa can read you thoughts via the 5G nanochips. [/tinfoil hat]
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 53 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 90 and mostly N.O.S. It’s Spring/Summer today. The big items on today’s agenda are laundry plus a doc/vampire appointment for me at nine a.m. Woo and Hoo. Sup shall be boxed lasagna (don’t judge!), sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, bother of bothers, I suppose I must needs purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. Woe!
Happy Tuesday Y’all!
I’m starting to hope FCD lasts till his May 3 appointment without an ER visit. He fell twice yesterday, fortunately both times in the house and I was nearby. But still, scary as all get-out. It’s as if he suddenly loses all strength in his legs. That’s the most terrifying part - how suddenly this all came on. Well, apart from googling the symptoms only to get even more terrifying suggestions of what it might be.
At least it happened before we went to FL. I can’t imagine dealing with this and his parents in a city where he doesn’t have a doctor and getting any appointment is next to impossible in the short term. And in the long term, unless this is just a weird passing condition, we’re going to have to cancel our Antarctic cruise. There’s no way he can deal with flying DC to LA, let alone Buenos Aires to DC, to say nothing of trying to walk on a ship that could well be rocking and rolling in the southern seas.
And on top of all that, it was another awful night, because one of his falls was around 2AM and I wasn’t able to get back to sleep. It’s gonna be a long-ass day. Plus it’s going to be pretty much cloudy and chilly, and the ground is still wet, so I’ve got RoxStar indoors. I’m going to bake a loaf of bread - at least it’ll smell good in here.
Sorry for the whiny start to the day. Sleep-deprived = crabby FCM. Now get off my lawn and happy Tuesday, dammit.
