Do we need to do Spring Cleaning in the MMP?

Jeez, MOOooooommm that IS scary!

Is your home wheelchair accessible at all?

If y’all don’t have grab bars installed - at least in the main bathroom - then I’d recommend looking into that upgrade, pronto. If nothing else, they’re handy if one should ever have a twisted knee, sore hip, etc.

Google “aging in place” for lots of other little things that can help with anyone experiencing mobility challenges - and falling multiple times a week certainly counts.

I bought new undies last night. Shall be trying them out today, when I get dressed for work here shortly - hope they fit!

Thus endeth the excitement at Casa De Shoe.

You do not sound whiny, FCM. That is scary and I’d be very worried and probably tired from lack of sleep too. You’d think with his proclivity to falling constantly, they’d get him in sooner. It is scary how quickly that came on. I am sending my very best thoughts to both you and FCD. I really hope that he can get in sooner than 4 May and avoid a trip to the ER.

I have a hair appointment tomorrow. I gave up the fight against gray last year. I was normally a brunette, but my hair grows so quickly that a strip would start to show up within 2 weeks of a color job. All of those root sprays just made my hair feel gross. So, when everyone went into COVID lock down I just let the roots go and by the time I could get a real haircut and color job, I told my stylist I wanted to start the transition to gray. It’s taken awhile, but it’s getting closer to what I want. I still have some naturally occurring dark hair in the back, but the front is mostly silvery with some darker strands mixed in.

The hair appointment date is providential because I have an interview on Thursday for what would be a promotion. This is another job I applied for clear back at the beginning of February. I’m not sure what my chances are on this one, but I’ll give it my best. Ironically, one of the people interviewing me is a person that was on the interview panel for the job that brought me to USDA. I am actually nervous about this one because I want the job. Plus, I just hate interview panels. They just seem to love multi-part questions which forces me to write down what they are saying so I don’t leave out an answer.

Sending healing thoughts to you too, Baker!

I finally submitted a leave request and am taking this Friday off. I did it first thing yesterday morning so I didn’t talk myself out of it because “there’s too much to do”. It was approved almost instantaneously. I don’t know what I plan to do yet, but it’s supposed to be really nice outside so I definitely want to be outdoors or at least out of the damn house. Maybe I’ll take a drive to Mt. Rainier…

That’s not whiny, FCM, that’s totally reasonable alarm. I hope you can persuade FCD to use his walker and that he cooperates.

Taters, the day off just for you sounds delightful. I should do that, too, even if we do have a scheduled vacation at the end of April. I need to get out of the house and have some alone time. I wonder if just strolling the mall is a wise thing, if I do it masked? I don’t even know if it’s open.

Everyone, have a good Tuesday.

To echo everyone else, FCM, that’s the man who has shared your life and love for what now, 30+ years? Of course you’re deeply concerned about him. Hope they can get him in early, is he/you reporting these falls to the Drs. Office? Might make a difference.

Taters, the interview will go well, I just know it, and enjoy driving about the countryside.

shoe, the idea for grab bars sounds practical…I’ve considered them for a future upgrade to house when the time comes.

OK, need to pick up dry cleaning later this morning and also do some kitchen cleaning. Soccer is 5-7pm tonight and the weather looks to be at 80F again, so nice.

Everyone take care now.

shoe - when we remodeled our bathrooms a few years back, we made sure to have grab bars in the tub/shower areas. But I’m wondering if we should add a couple to the walls in the main part of the bathroom… and down the hall… Last night’s fall was against the door next to the sink - it could have been really bad if his head had hit the door frame instead of falling thru the open doorway. That’s the stuff of nightmares!!

I’ve got a loaf of bread in the oven - I forgot to get some at the store yesterday, but this will taste better - YUM. Roxy is full of energy today but it’s not nice enough outside for her to play in the yard. She’s having some toast right now, and soon we’ll go down the basement to try to run off some steam. I’m going to try to get her to nap, too. That may not work, but I’ll try.

FCD has been rasslin’ with the portal to our primary Dr office - tech support was no help, but he finally worked it out and he’s in - small victories, right?

Oh, and I ran the dishwasher earlier, so I accomplished that. Such excitement…

FCM, that’s not whiny at all. Is there any hope of moving up the appointment? Please let us know what happens!

Today is shaping up to be grey and ridiculously full of work issues. And mom issues. Not health related at all. But now that she’s well, I can complain.

We’re not having an actual real argument or fight, but last night she told me I’m too old to be running anymore and I should stop. Then she told me it was ridiculous I was taking piano lessons at my age, plus I need a home decorator or my house would soon be “unlivable.” So what I’m taking away from all this is that 1) I need to run another 3 marathons like I did last time she said that (granted that was 18 years ago), 2) I’d better get ready for my recital at the end of May (and invite her to watch) and 3) I should also replace every seat in my house with a futon or beanbag or some equivalent thereof. So there.

I hope this is not my future, because my daughter seems to have inherited my stubborn streak.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s been a bright and sunny day although I am told it was a very cold start. Weather app says “It’s fair to fucking middling outside” and promises me 12C/54F all day and mostly sunny. Looks about right to me!

Yesterday I went to the gym for a brief visit, I hadn’t planned to stay long as I just needed to collect a fob thing to get in to the place, and then had a nose around and a long chat with my ex-PT who is now working there. She’s not contracted to do PT work but she’s hoping they will let her do that, so she’s going to keep me informed. It’s a nice shiny new gym, but rather small so I’ll keep my other membership at the bigger place and see how things work out when they’re able to put classes and stuff on.

Today has been a day of mixed blessings, got some exam info I’d been waiting for but it creates more headaches for me in the planning stages. I still need to contact about 200 students individually with details of extra time allowances on take-home papers but I can’t do that until someone’s approved the text I want to use, and we know when the other teams in our College are sending theirs out.

quietly we have no in-person teaching on campus in our depts yet, but we are being summoned back to our offices. Seems equally pointless to me, we have three weeks of teaching left, then two weeks of “enrichment/project activities”, and then a three-week assessment period which is all taking place online. So why do they need us to go and staff the offices?

Mooooom you’re not whiny at all, I think you have some genuine concerns about FCD and his condition. You’ve obviously taken precautions already so continuing on with those won’t do any harm. I know when mum became less mobile, and after her second hip injury, we looked at quite a lot of things that could help her with mobility. She already had a shower seat and a “booster seat” for her terlit, but there were so many other little things that we found, things we’d never really thought about.

In other news, we’re off to the pub tomorrow night! Managed to find one in town that takes bookings so we are booked in for the evening, it will be good to see my pub friends again, we’re a kind of pet-feeding support bubble so haven’t mixed with anyone else but also haven’t really been able to see each other either. I am going to celebrate now, with a cup of tea!

He’s in the Northeast Bay* near San Francisco.

  • It’s weird. People consider Marin County North Bay, and Alameda/Contra Costa Counties as East Bay. Solano County is in a never-neverland, apparently.

Unfortunately, due to the plague affecting pretty much everything, ya gets what ya gets. FCD asked if they’d call if anyone canceled, but they don’t do that. I’m sure they have reasons… I guess…

We had already replaced both upstairs terlits with the taller stool models, but I’m thinking we might need to get a booster as well. I suggested it, and it went over like the proverbial lead balloon, but we shall see. I have been looking at the bath mats in each bathroom - I’m thinking they may have to go. No need for extra trip hazards. And we did get an adjustable stool for the shower after his last surgery - it’s been pressed back into service.

Miracle of miracles - I got Roxy to go down for a nap - no fussing or anything. I think waking at 5 kicks her toddler butt. Potty training is not having much of an effect. This morning, I sat with her, hoping she’d pee in the terlit, then I gave up. Not 10 minutes later, she filled her britches with poo. And if I hadn’t noticed, she wouldn’t have cared. That’s the problem - she doesn’t mind wet or poopy pants. She’s so smart about so many things and so indifferent to this.

The bread I baked was superb! I let it rise a little longer than in the past, and it made a big difference. I may never buy bread again!! (who am I kidding - convenience often wins!)

OK, off to enjoy a but of peace and quiet.

Afternoon (barely, it’s 12:01 here) all. Picked up dry cleaning and gassed up car ($42 and $64 respectively, so I’ve done my part for the economy this morning). Came home and scheduled a Doctors appointment for my annual physical checkup for the 20th of April. Now just trying to stay awake until soccer practice time.

talky, run as long as you’re able (bold talk from an old guy who would be out of breath after 25 yards), play what you feel like playing, and live in the house you like. Momma doesn’t know everything…

OK, see if nappage is possible. All y’all take care.

My computer sent me a postcard from Texas. Not really. The techs in Techs Us sent it saying they were about to start repair work. I feel like I’m in the surgery waiting room.

FCM, sounds like a hard night. Does he/can he take his walker into the bathroom? Seems like that’d be ideal if he can’t reach a grab bar. Ugh. Sorry you’re going through this. Hopefully Roxie will care more about potty training soon. Maybe when she’s around more potty-trained kiddles?

Cupcake, hope you’re doing ok today.

wordy, I like your spunky attitude!

shoe, hope the knickers don’t knot. :slightly_smiling_face:

Pearls of wisdom.

I know there are more pearls in this thread, but I is exhausted, and it’s only Tuesday.

{{{Mooooooom}}}

Just got the second shot today. Time for my tinfoil…maybe I can line my new mystery hat with it.

The house is toddler-free till tomorrow. I just finished steaming and cutting up shrimps for shrimp salad. In a little bit, I’ll build 2 green salads. Add some of the bread I baked today, and that’ll be supper.

Roxy’s b-day will be celebrated here on Thursday. FCD realized he won’t be able to negotiate the steps at their house. I’ll have Roxy here and she’ll get to decorate her cake. Then Daughter and SIL will come with pizza, a candle, and a balloon. I’m not sure if we’ll have ice cream or not. And I should find out on Thurs what SIL’s schedule will be next week.

The sun is shining, but rain is promised tomorrow and Thurs - so much for gardening this week. I will need to water the plants in the green house - I can move the smaller planter out in the rain, but the other 2 are too big to deal with.

And so it goes.

Work went OK for a change. I went to Lenscrafters to get new glasses to replace the ones I broke last month(since insurance and Moderna kicked in). I’ll have 'em tomorrow.

FCM, you’re not whiny, you are concerned, and righfully so. {{{{FairyChat Family}}}}

“Shit happens, you just gotta deal.” - RoxStar

: fingers crossed: for you, Taters.

dicey, most of the time, the only time my oven gets cleaned is when I’m prepping for a deposit return. :stuck_out_tongue: Generally, there are no spills, so it isn’t too horrible.

{{{Moooooom and FCD}}} You’re not being whiney. The grab bars and removing throw rugs are a good idea.

Good luck on your interview taters!

Irked, came home and walked Nelson. He got to meet a new neighbor puppy (6 months old) who is a similar mix as he is. They would have had a ball if there wouldn’t have been a chain link fence between them. The pupper’s human and I made a play date (barring rain) for this Friday afternoon.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I’m delighted to report that my new undies are comfy, fit well, and came in a mostly-acceptable array of colors.

In fact, I’d planned out a whole cutesy post (with a “brief update” for you folks) but then things went to hell in a handbasket at work, and such foolishness fell by the wayside.

Briefly (ha! Okay. I did need to work that joke in somehow.) I got sleazed at today by a pervy old customer, who shows up every once in a while to ostensibly buy stuff, but mostly to creep on any female employee unlucky enough to cross his path.
Plus about eighteen other instances of absolute WTF (including an inventory delivery that … came through the customer line? like, why would you do that?) that have completely dissolved my ability to deal with human fuckery today.

So, it appears that while my new undies fit quite well, my knickers are indeed in a twist.

ETA: oh, there was an absolutely gorgeous dog sitting shotgun with a nice lady, who explained that pupper is a Newfoundland/German shepherd mix.
Imagine a German shepherd with long, shampoo-commercial hair & a newfie’s laid-back personality.

Mrs Magill got her first jab this morning. I get my second next week. T minus three weeks until I can get a beer.

Squeaky and Spike had their middle school band concert tonight. They sounded good. The high school director was there. He asked after Mrs Magill, and said he hoped to see her at the band banquet next month.

FCM I hope everything works out with FCD. And you’re not being whiny.

shoe, sounds like an absolutely gorgeous dog. Helps make up for the anal openings that crossed your path today.

FCM, my weather is a lot like yours; nice today but rain expected tomorrow, hopefully stopping before Thursday.

VanGo, yeah for shot #2. Went to Staples today and got my COVID card laminated (well, they took a copy and shrunk it to wallet-sized and laminated that).

Wizard, good for Mrs. Maus and you on the shot front. And the kids are alright…

red, I think Nelson gets more dates than you, nellie, and I combined…

OK, soccer has been coached (we lost 9-6), dinner has been consumed, some more readin’ and internettin’ is in store. Take care all.

I’m back from my 8.6 with the usual sore feet. Maybe my high arches need more support or something. Whilst I was walking, a guy running past asked if I’d happened to see his wallet. I hadn’t but put in mental call to St. Anthony—I’m a frequent flier. Hope he found it. It’s a terrible panic to find your wallet is gone.

No word on the ‘outer. Maybe it’s decided it prefers the Lone Star State and is taking up life anew closer to Thel and to Boo, Jr…

Shoe , sorry about the lech. What a jerk.
