Stocking up on MMPs

Since even our out-of-US MMPers haven’t started us yet, maybe I should.

Life in the 2020s so far has been quite weird, and has probably changed some things permanently for all of us. I’ve noticed that my own stockpile tendencies got pretty strong in spring of 2020 and haven’t really eased off. Just how much TP, paper towels, hand sanitizer, Lysol, etc., does a two-adult, two-small-pet household really NEED?

Hijack away.

Yes we are:
Dictionary

 au·gust
 /ôˈɡəst/
 *adjective*
  1. respected and impressive.

There’s nothing more to say, is there?

Happy Moanday!!

Moderator Note

Two MMPs merged for the usual reason (1 post each so not much confusion this time).

The second post in this thread will make more sense once I tell you that FCM’s thread title was “We are an August Body in the MMP!”

Thanks for the merge. I always check for the new MMP before starting, but, um, I guess the sun was in my eyes??

You need to get those goggles tinted.

Now that there’s just one MMP…

FCD has gone for his pre-surgery PT evaluation/plan. Then he heads to the Admin building to finish any paperwork before being an employee again. I found out this weekend they’d been asking him for months if he would come back to work for them instead of being an independent contractor. Anyway, today, he’s back.

Shortly, I will harness Higgs and take her to the groomer. Then I’ll head down to my daughter’s house to wrangle Roxy till Higgs is ready, at which point we’ll pick her up and head back here. Daughter and SIL have to go to Annapolis for a pre-natal scan that the local hospital can’t do - with luck, they’ll be back around lunch time to reclaim their spawn.

Then… who knows? I’ll be without adult supervision till supper time.
:smiling_imp:

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN I was a bit of a slugabed this mornin’ and did not get up until after seven and that’s with goin’ to bed last night at eight-thirty. I was tahrd! ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 93 and a seventy-five percent chance of rain/tstorms/apocalypse predicted for the day. We shall see. Received a call last night from Lowe’s to say the dryer will (finally!) be delivered between eight and noon this mornin’. YAY, but again, we shall see. At any rate I shall be happy when it does arrive and will throw all caution to the wind and do laundry. Sup shall be ham (the ham I was goin’ to cook for First Sunday Brunch which got cancelled), green beans, N.O.T. sallit, and rolls. Ham shall be the basis for a couple of meals this week.

Netttie do I need remind you there is no such thing as too much toilet paper?

shoe from the last MMP, Verger is pronounced with a soft g, though rhymin’ it with burger amuses me.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

Good morning all. Respected, FCM?..perhaps. Impressive? <looks at 290lb, bald-headed body> Well, maybe…

And Seanette, in the TP stockpile, I just looked and have 84 rolls for one butt, so I think even swampy would approve of that ratio. My real stockpile is in Pepi, currently I have 24 12-packs and 8 2-liter bottles sitting around (not counting what is in the refrigerator). So I’m ready for 2022 there.

Ok, enough of this is your life. Up about 6:30am, temperature is only going to 84F today, so might get out with the trimmer/edger and do some trimming and edging. Or not. Dishwasher is full and I’ll set it to run here in a bit.

FCM, guess FCD is really ‘the indispensable man’ for his old company. Have fun with Roxy.

swampy, hope the dryer arrives safe and sound.

And a great good morning to all the rest of the MMP!

Happy Moonday!

It was a nice and chilly 58 degrees at the dog park this morning.
I wish I had worn long sleeves.

I read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up
In the book the author talks about a man who had something like 240 toothbrushes stored under the sink. I thought, yeah, that’s a little crazy. Another woman had something like 300 rolls of plastic wrap, and I thought wow, that is a bit nuts.
Then she went on to say that another man had 80 rolls of TP in his bathroom, and I thought, what the hell is wrong with that?
Although I think my favorite story was of the woman who got rid of everything in her house that didn’t spark joy anymore. Several months later she realized her husband no longer sparked joy, so she got rid of him too.

I got the appraisal back yesterday.
There are two errors in it. One being that I do have a basement, not a crawl space. There’s a picture of the inside stairs going to the basement, there is a picture of the outside stairs going to the basement, there are several pictures of the basement. A tall person can walk around down there without having to duck their head. It may be ugly and unfinished, but it is a basement, or cellar if you prefer. However, I don’t have a garbage disposal. I don’t know why the appraisal says I do.
According to some paperwork I got from the mortgage company; my house didn’t appraise high enough. But by my calculations, it appraised for more than enough. I don’t know where the mortgage guy got his figures.
I guess I will be hearing from them today. I expect from past experience that their figures are wrong and mine are right.

I need to do laundry today. I should have done it yesterday but I took a nap instead.

Bad news. I have only TWO spare rolls of TP. :scream: But shopping is shedjooled for later today.

Oh, no. Putting this here instead of the Pit since y’all will know who I’m talking about … my friend from my old job? The one with five cats?

… has COVID. And IIRC she wasn’t keen on getting vaccinated back when there were some convos about it when they first were released, but I don’t know if she came around, and considering she messaged me that she’d been in the E.R. yesterday, it seemed like an inappropriate time to ask.

I’m scared for her, but if it turns out she didn’t ever get the jib-jab, I’m gonna be so pissed at her, too.
She’s been an emotional rock for me lately - she can’t leave me now!

I don’t even know what to say to her. “Get well soon” seems so trite. What I really want to say is, “Don’t die on me, woman!”

My daughter managed to catch the oven on fire making whoopie pies for me. I was outside for a scant 15 minutes, for Pete’s sake. Luckily it was just the one batch that looked like little briquettes and the rest were fantabulous, well worth the brief panic. Overlyboy then took me out for a run and while we were gone, the husband grabbed a jar of queso for me at the store, the first time he’s gone to the grocery in months. I think my family is trying to condition me like Pavlov’s dog, but they sure are awesome.

I managed to get myself to Costco this weekend, which was a poorly thought out decision. I had to fight my way through the store after having already fought my way just to get out of bed. But we do have TP now, which is good. There truly is no such thing as too much TP.

I’m sorry to hear about your friend, shoe.

Home again with a clean dog and an almost potty trained toddler! Lunch soon. I’s hongreeee!

Morning, all. Another triple-digit day in the Southland. Whee. Plans for the day are to do…absolutely nothing. This is my last Monday off before school starts again, and by Grabthar’s Hammer I’m going to waste it if I feel like it!

Found a HUGE pile of coyote shit in the middle of my watermelons this morning, which explains the noted lack of neighborhood cats in the yard lately. Hopefully they are all just staying close to home until the beast goes elsewhere. I might just have to sit outside in the middle of the night with the .22 and persuade the ugly thing to move on. Major construction going on in the river bed (houses, parks, a new lake) so all the fauna got displaced into the surrounding neighborhoods.

shoe - Sorry about your friend. Hope she pulls through quickly.

Stay safe and cool, people!

Good morning.

It’s sunny and a refreshing 59 degrees with an expected high of around 90. I am watering the lawn and will be moving the sprinkler shortly to the next section of the lawn.
I have a whole Costco pack of TP and paper towels, plus a couple of extra six-packs left over from the last purchase. I have four 12 packs of diet coke. It doesn’t stay long in the house, so it’s not something we have we manage to stock up on. I don’t really stock up on much of anything else, it’s just me, my husband, and Polar, so there really isn’t a need. Food goes bad after a while, even pantry stuff. Last year I completed a giant purge of my pantry and threw out so much food (rice, expired canned good, expired pasta) and I don’t want to do that anymore. My husband has gone back to buying too much of that stuff, so I told him to knock it off until we get through most of what’s in the pantry. As for shampoo, I buy good stuff from the salon and it lasts a good long while, especially since the husband doesn’t have all that much hair left.

Yesterday I power washed my retaining wall and back patio. I could have probably done a little better job on certain sections of the wall, but the surface is very rough and I didn’t hit all the nooks and crannies right. I’m going to get some concrete cleaner, wire brushes and go to town on the rest of it. That being said it does look a thousand times better than it did. Those two projects pretty much took up my whole afternoon.

I’m not sure what I’m going to do today. I’ve got plenty of chores to keep me busy, but on the other hand, I’d kind of like to do something before things get smoky in these parts. According to the news, my side of the state. On Sunday we had a high haze from the fires south of us, now we’re expecting smoke from California too. It’s arrived later this year, but still, the smoke season is a thing here now.

I’m sorry about your friend, shoe.

I hope you can get the refinance squared away, Sahirrnee.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s a balmy 19F/64C out there today. I have ventured outside as I had to go to the post office to send my expired passport back as I’ve now finished the online renewal application. I got a new set of pics done on Saturday and even though the renewal site obligingly told me that the background and image were very similar, I was able to obligingly tell it back that I am a pale pasty person, and the pics were taken at a proper passport-pic-taking shop. Therefore I expect them to accept said pics and stop making such a song and dance about it.

shoe sorry to hear about your friend, I hope she recovers soon.

moooom* good luck to FCD both on employment and pre-surgery stuff!

nettie we have a spare pack of 9 rolls of TP, and I opened another 9-pack yesterday. That’s enough for two people for a while. I don’t have space in the house to stockpile stuff, although we do have a small brexit stockpile of tinned tomatoes, beans, baked beans and a few other things that 'im indoors was convinced we would not be able to get because of brexit. I do share my workspace with 10 bottles of cava though…

Nothing exciting going on today, it’s Moanday and everyone is moaning about something. I’ve spent all day faffing with exam papers and other bits and pieces, had a couple of meetings that went on far longer than they should, and feel like I have achieved very little. I’m logging off in a minute, finishing my cup of tea and heading off to do a Rockfit session downstairs. No doubt the cat will stalk me as that usually means food time for them.

Happy monday all! I decided I din’t wanna work today, so as I am my own boss, I gave myself the day off. Wasn’t planning on leaving the house, but it appears the booze levels have gotten shockingly low, and I need to get some canned tomatoes…or do I? Perhaps a peek at the garden shall show enough maters to make sauce for the next pizza.

goes to look

Damn squirrels ate at least one of the San Marzanos. Well, I 'spose if they’re eating tomatoes, they’re not eating the wires in my truck. Still, I hate the little fuzzy rats with puffy tails.

Afternoon all, 'tis torrentially downpouring and lightninging out there. I was planning on heading to the shops, but I think I’ll leave it a bit.

Yet another quiet day at irk- good job I’m quitting end of next month anyway, really. I’m starting to properly hunt for a place to move to, 'cos I am not up for a student share, I may be one of the youngins around here, but I’m still far too old for that nonsense.

Hunting for cheap rental places is not fun, the nice ones get snapped up immediately (somehow- though all the agencies seem bewildered at the whole concept of letting anywhere out when phoned), and there’s a load of overpriced awful places out there. Also, half the agencies a) insist you need to be gainfully employed to be considered and b) only schedule viewings Monday - Friday, 9-5.

I am enjoying the weird and terrible photos in the ads though.

Daughter sent me an image of the bun in her oven. I recognized his nose and adjacent features. He looked like a poorly executed clay rendering of a face. Ain’t technology amazing??

Nut I’m glad to hear it’s raining somewhere. Around here sky-water is achieving mythical status.

Shoe I’m sorry about your friend. Hopefully they will have a mild case.

VanGo squirrels are indeed rats with puffy tails. No one ever seems to believe me though.

Sari my streamlined refi has turned into the opposite. I’m changing to my usual broker. I’ve decided these guys are a phone bank with no actual knowledge of anything.

I’m not sure what I’m up to today. Hubby and son are still furious. I hope things improve soon.

Happy Monday everyone!
